You don't think it's possible for a Free Republic poll to be Freeped?

Bwahahahahahaha.

Look at the numbers ~ there are so few involved it would be quite easy for someone to concoct lebenteenzillion "usernames" and do the job.

Right. The purpose of the polls, I presume, is to gauge the opinion of Free Republic posters, not to poll the electorate. I think most everyone here understands that Free Republic is not representative of the Republican Party, let alone the country at large. We’re a self-selected group of conservative and libertarian activists and news junkies.

I think it is a perfectly good question, and it makes perfect sence. It is based upon speculation AND historical friendships....including that Fred was part of McCain's 2000 campaign:

SO- If Fred one day endorses McCain .... will that make Fred a RINO too???

Ah yes, the “real conservative” argument.

You are practiced at arguing from false premises.

I know he is pretty good on defense and fiscal policy.

The right to lifers have a very strong person in the WH as do the anti-tax and active WOT crowd. Roberts and Alito were good pick ups on SCOTUS.

Hillary means we get abortionists on the court and a whole bunch of idiots in the defense department.

Mitt is our guy now.

Maybe "yours", but certainly not mine.

Which is why it should not be discussed as having any scientific validity ~ outside of "trend".

A careful examination of those polls would probably reveal a steady growth of the occurrence of Fred Thompson's name at the top of the list ~ IRRESPECTIVE OF THE QUESTION ASKED.

Now, his name won't be at the top.

At the same time I don't think you'll find Romney picking up the Fred-heads in large numbers ~

I’ll be supporting Duncan Hunter but he has little chance due to MSM ignoring him (and him letting them!) No one is showing any leadership qualities on the “right” side.

Of everyone left, it appears that Romney will survive into September. Of the others, a Rooty McHuckleberry ticket might cause me to vote for Obama (if he is the nominee).

Yep, Obama.

At least we can live through another “general malaise” guided by an inexperienced legislator cum president. After which a true leader with an R may appear or...(dare I hope it?)...conservatives will “meet under an oak tree in downtown Jackson” once again.

Pshaw.

We are "the press" these days.

I haven't. So what? That was 2000. Fred Thompson ran against McCain in 2007 and 2008.

Once again, if he's going to endorse McCain, why hasn't he done so already, when McCain clearly needs it in Florida?

Zero chance. Hunter withdrew even before Thompson did.

That’s the truth. I didn’t mean ‘news junkie’ as a pejorative.

For myself, I will reevaluate and decide at a later date.

I don't really have until a later date. I have to dump my absentee ballot in the mail before Friday.

Maybe I'll leave the Republican Primary part blank. Ugh.

Reagan was pro-choice too... if that’s your litmus test.
I say Romney is a Reagan pro-choicer”

You know, as Governor, Reagan did some awesome things. He also did some things that were very un-conservative. As a candidate and as President, though, he pretty well articulated the conservative gold standard.

I think that we have to give Romney the benefit of the doubt, if Reagan is a guide. Reagan’s record as governor was more liberal than his message in the campaigns. So it is with Romney. But at the end of the day, Romney is, in fact, saying all the right things.

It is entirely possible that Romney is going to be very much like Reagan in this regard.

I’ve started to see a trickle of people start saying in threads that they are going to support Paul because he is the only candidate left who supports the concept of small government.

Should we surrender the war on terror in exchange for smaller government? I’m all for smaller government, but pacifism is the last thing that we need right now.

That will depend on his reason for doing so. If McCain is the nominee, and Fred endorses him, that would make him the very opposite of a “Republican in Name Only”.

Gads!

Note to self...stay in front of your computer at all times. Things that you think are rumors can turn out to be true!

I had resolved to limit my surfing time for 2008.

Do a sound check on Obamasama's voice ~ he's sounding more and more like Eisenhower every day ~ almost like he's taking lessons from a professional voice coach.

Dems voted for Ike in swarms and hordes.

We shall see how it goes in the next few primaries.
