Dear fellow Fredheads,
It's time to support Mitt Romney. Can Mitt win in a general election? I don't know. Certainly he has always had a better chance than Fred. And if the opposition is Hillary Clinton, then maybe.
McCain can beat Hillary. But McCain is, well, McCain.
To be honest, I'm not as down on McCain as most of my fellow Jawas and you, the readers. But that's just because I've been a one-issue guy since right around, oh, let me see, I think the date was 9/11/2001.
But still, McCain doesn't get that the border is tied in with our national security.
Mitt does. And he seems to get the war on political Islam.
Sure, Rudy also seems to get both, but it's probably too little too late for him.
I'm hearing some oddball theory that a lot of Fredheads are natural Huckabee supporters. That's insane. Like, certifiably insane.
It's built on the presumption that the evangelical supporters of Thompson are in the same boat as the evangelical supporters of Huckabee. I got news for Tom Edsell: they aint the same animal. Sure, they may have the same funny accent, and so I'm guessing that to an outsider like Edsell the presumption is that they must be the same species. But they're not.

Romney’s NOT the conservative choice. He’s one of the options left after all the conservative choices are gone.
If you want any kind of support from conservatives, now’s not the time to start dressing up Romney as a conservative. Call him what he is, then make an argument as to why I should vote for him anyway.
That’s where almost EVERY Thompson supporter is at this point. You may actually convince some to move in Romney’s direction.
As for me, I’m not going to negotiate with terrorists. Vote my way, or the country gets it. Fine, then the country gets it. It was probably time, if that’s what it REALLY comes down to. Maybe we can start over with some more viable.
Soviet Union collapsed and yet those Devils of the West didn’t rain nuclear horror down on Russia. If the US falls, something less optimal will take its place. I can’t care on behalf of those that don’t, and I can’t vote for someone that cares about it, so what’s expected of me?
If the republicans want to put up a conservative, I’ll vote for him or her. If they don’t, I’ll write one in. If my guy loses, and the liberal the R’s put up loses, the liberal the D’s put up will win.
If it makes you feel any better, you’ll get Romney anyway, even if you lose the general election. He’s our John Kerry.
“Fred’s rather flawed character”?
This writer can kiss my ass and so can Mitt.
The Democrats are truly going to win “big time” on November 4, and everybody who doesn’t see this coming are fooling themselves!
As a FredHead who’s been contemplating the use of my vote should Fred not succeed in his WH bid, I have come to the conclusion it will best be spent on Romney.
I cannot standby out of discontent with our choices allow Hitlary or Hussein to win this election. NO FREAKING WAY!
FTFY
I am reluctantly for Huckabee because I can trust him on abortion. I may not be "deep" but I know that abortion is a profoundly evil abomination, a child sacrifice in the sight of God. If you believe in God, believe in his wrath. If God is for us, who can be against us? But if we are against God, nothing else matters.
Flip Romney has either lied about being for or against abortion.
GOVERNOR ROMNEY: "I am pro-life. I believe that abortion is the wrong choice except in cases of incest, rape, and to save the life of the mother. I wish the people of America agreed, and that the laws of our nation could reflect that view. But while the nation remains so divided over abortion, I believe that the states, through the democratic process, should determine their own abortion laws and not have them dictated by judicial mandate." (Governor Mitt Romney, Boston Globe, Op-Ed, 7/26/05)
>>>It’s time to support Mitt Romney.
No. Not until Fred is his VP.
To be fair, so does McCain, who mentions "Islamic extremism" in nearly every speech. Of course he also fails to get the war on environmental extremism and the socialist "climate change" offensive.
As Ed Koch said today on Malzberg, "Rudy is dead". He will not be in the race after Feb 5th.
WHAT!?!?! Tell me more please.
Now that Fred’s out, my only choice can be Romney. I’m in. Let the healing begin.
If you think Romney is a conservative you must love the Bush Admin’s brief in Heller...oh, and you are “certifiably insane.”
“once again, real conservatives have been pushed aside and they will have to choose among what’s left or sit it out.”
It’s been that way since 1988, there is NOTHING new about it...
The leftist (and largely-Gay) media has succeeded in painting the “Conservative Agenda” as EVIL, STUPID, Homophobic, and hypocritical..
In many people’s eyes, the word “Conservative” is associated with Confederate-flagged pickups driven by drunken NASCAR fans, running blacks down on the roadsides.
It’s been a decades-long propoganda war, and WE LOST.
Despite this the fact remains that neither the Liberal left, or WE, can win an election without the great unwashed “middle”.
No prob. I want EVERYONE that is spouting on about "oh well, guess I will vote Romney" to never be able to say they did not know.
It's a s**tstorm that is coming to this country. First will be the "election." Then there will be amnesty. Then there will be disarmament and it will not matter one whit what the Supreme Court decides. We will have 30 to 50 MILLION illegal aliens walking around with U.S. stamped on them and they were raised in third world conditions and posses third world "values."
Does anyone think that the same forces that pushed the only real republican conservatives out of the race (Thompson, Hunter and Tancredo) are going to let those very same 50,000,000 amnesty americans (illegal aliens) walk around WITH GUNS?
Who is going to stop amnesty now? The Democrats? Juan McCain? Huckster? Mittwit?
It is coming as sure as the sun rises and if ANYONE is not getting ready they will be lost.
I think Romney would lose in a national election.
Romney can’t secure the GOP base - he loses with 2nd amendment conservatives (like me - and there are a lot of us), with social conservatives who don’t approve of his past with abortion and gay rights, and with everyone who have seen his many, many “changes of heart” and who don’t want another pig-in-a-poke.
He is trying so hard to sound ultra-conservative after a liberal past that he’ll scare away the moderates and the conservative-leaning Dems that are scattered across the south.
I’m not sure who to support after Mr. Thompson dropped out today, but I know it will not be Mitt Romney. He has conveniently changed his opinion far too many times on too many critical issues to be trusted.
supporting Mitt will never happen with my vote... i may write in Fred’s name...
Amen!
That is true if we get Hillary too, and not a good reason to support her either.
“If States like MA want to mandate purchasing health insurance fine, although I personally am not in favor of it.
But we don’t need MORE mandates from Big Brother in DC led by Mitt Romney”
Mitt does not support DC mandates for Heath Insurance.
