Dear fellow Fredheads,
It's time to support Mitt Romney. Can Mitt win in a general election? I don't know. Certainly he has always had a better chance than Fred. And if the opposition is Hillary Clinton, then maybe.
McCain can beat Hillary. But McCain is, well, McCain.
To be honest, I'm not as down on McCain as most of my fellow Jawas and you, the readers. But that's just because I've been a one-issue guy since right around, oh, let me see, I think the date was 9/11/2001.
But still, McCain doesn't get that the border is tied in with our national security.
Mitt does. And he seems to get the war on political Islam.
Sure, Rudy also seems to get both, but it's probably too little too late for him.
I'm hearing some oddball theory that a lot of Fredheads are natural Huckabee supporters. That's insane. Like, certifiably insane.
It's built on the presumption that the evangelical supporters of Thompson are in the same boat as the evangelical supporters of Huckabee. I got news for Tom Edsell: they aint the same animal. Sure, they may have the same funny accent, and so I'm guessing that to an outsider like Edsell the presumption is that they must be the same species. But they're not.

Well, Romney made a very powerful argument for not giving residency privileges to illegal aliens under a “Z visa” amnesty. He was very much against letting them stay, saying it would only encourage others to come.
Now the question remains. Will Romney keep his word here or compromise like a good businessman when/if he gets in office?
I can’t say. But I am SURE the other candidates will sign bills to let the illegals stay.
In one of the debates, Mitt was asked about his change on Abortion. Mitt said of his old pro-choice views: "I was wrong."
I liked that.
When was the last time you heard a politician speak that bluntly about themselves?
"Liberty and freedom does not mean a free lunch. So why don't the founding documents of this nation require everyone to purchase health insurance?
If you show up in the ER without Health Insurance, youre a deadbeat. I dont want to pay for your healthcare.
Individuals should have their own damn Health Insurance.
I dont think thats so difficult to understand. Its called personal responsibility.
Without personal responsibilty, any notions of a Free Republic go up in smoke.
By you logic it should be mandatory that everyone own a car. Because moochers use public transportation.
Or everyone should be required by law to have children, just in case they get old and need someone to take care of them.
Or we should send police into every home to inspect for smoke alarms, fire extenguishers, and to do BOD tests. " Its called personal responsibility."
It looks to me like you are advocating exchanging Liberty for security.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C. S. Lewis
I believe that there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachment of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations. -James Madison
Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? -Thomas Jefferson
The history of liberty is a history of the limitations of governmental power, not the increase of it. - Woodrow Wilson
We stand in danger of losing our liberties, and . . . once lost, only blood will bring them back . . . -J. Reuben Clark, Jr.
ake, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death! -Address to the Virginia Convention 23 March 1775 by Patrick Henry
Still counting on the Dinosaur media?
What if Rush had endorsed Fred?
THANK YOU!! Finally, some common sense!
MassResistance used selective quotations of the opinion to come to the wrong conclusion. Sorry. They seem to have a profound misunderstanding of the law, which I think is deliberate because they seem smart enough to know better.
Assuming you’ve read their argument, here is a BRIEF explanation of it’s failings. The court did not VACATE the existing law, because that would mean nobody could get married. Throwing out a law is considered a very severe response.
They also couldn’t simply say the law allowed same-sex marriage. The words did not permit it.
However, they decided the words “men and woman” were common-law terms, and not an explicit statement in the law about the sex of the two participants. Then they argued that common law changes over time, and that the common law definition of marriage now included same sex couples.
Consequently, they ruled that the Mass. Marriage law, which they said depended on the “common law” definition of marriage, now embraced their new version of that, which is “person” and “person”.
They didn’t have to re-write the law, they just changed the meaning of “man and woman”.
They didn’t give the legislature 180 days to implement their ruling, they actually gave specific instructions on how their ruling was to be implemented, including granting relief to the plaintiffs, AND to others similarly situated (relief in this case meaning gay marriage).
They then STAYED their ruling for 180 days to give the legislature time to change the law to make it clear whether the legislature wanted same-sex marriage or not.
Anybody who thinks for a second about the “stay” would realise MassResistance is being stupid. If the court had NOT ordered any change in the law, there would be nothing to “stay”. If the legislature had no need to act in 180 days, and if the end of the 180 day stay was meaningless, there would be no point in having a 180 day period.
The entire concept of a 180-day stay of a ruling would be meaningless if you accepted the MassResistance opinion. Since courts don’t make meaningless judgments, it is clear that the MassResistance opinion is in fact meaningless.
POST OF THE DAY IF NOT THE POST OF THE MONTH!
Some of these people I want to grab by the shoulders and shake! Wake up! Get real!
I've said this before on this thread.
Remove mandates from hospitals to provide health care. Decrease mandates...don't increase them like Romney wants to do.
Actually, that wasn’t universal health care coverage. If it was, everybody would be covered, so there would be no penalties for not buying your own insurance.
The Mass. Plan was a mandated insurance coverage plan, with people having the choice of how to meet their own insurance needs, either through employer plans, through a bevy of group plans open to individuals, and through assertion of ability to self-cover.
The penalty for lack of coverage was the loss of tax deductions, to pay for the government care that would no doubt be demanded if a person had an illness and couldn’t pay for it.
It’s one way to try to fix the problem. Romney does NOT propose to implement that plan nationally. His plan nationally is a mix of tax breaks and deregulation to make it easier to buy insurance whether your employer offers it or not, and giving states more latitude to try their own plans.
Case Closed!
Romney is not in Favor of “new government mandates for individuals or companies to buy coverage” at the Federal level.
Sometimes, it’s like talking to a wall!
I noticed your tag line. I’ve heard good things about Haley, but I haven’t studied him much. Have you looked into his positions on issues, and is there a good place to get information about him?
Thanks.
Did a quick once-over.
Could not find info on:
Gay marriage / "hate crimes" legislation
Support for Israel
Abortion
2nd Amendment
Constructionist Judges
North Korea
Any info is welcome.
Cheers!
That is not what he said.
You are mistaken.
See post #181.
You are welcome.
well Ron paul is a nut and hasn’t got a clue about foreign policy he thinks that if we leave them alone then they will leave us alone, remionds me of Neville Chamberlain.
Mc Cain the media darling
wants all illegals to stay in the country, worked on the fiasco with kennedy about illegal immigration, worked in the fiasco Feinstein, voted against tax cuts, not bothered about gays and doesn’t want a federal amendment.
H is stubborn , never listens to anyone, his health and mind are not exactly stable
Guiliiani(sp)
for gays gettingmarried , for illegal immigration, made his city a safe sanctuary, raises taxes, though not bad on crime and foeign policy I’d say
Romney wants a federal amendment to stop queers getting married, tried to stop it in his state but of course a liberal judges came to their rescue, so Romney at least enacted a old law to stop queers coming to the stae to get married, told the state police to get rid of illegals and stopped free tuition to illegal immigrants, did try to lower taxes and I know this first hand as I lived there for a while while he was Gov. of course the liberal legislature overrode him . he was for abortion but did change his mind years ago as someone close to him had one so that is hardly a flip flop.
not sure where he stands on gun rights but wants to keep terrorists away from our shores so they don’t get a lawyer like an American citizen would
Huckerbee
soft on illegal immigrants would let them stay like Mc Cain, raise taxes like a dem, no buisness sense or foreign policy
wants to close gitmo and wants them people to come here for a civilian trial as does Mc Cain
none of them was my first choice, I would have liked hunter or tancredo but it seems I will be voting for Romney as is the wife
Yep Romney for me the worst thing would be Mc Cain or ron nutty chamberlaiin paul I couldn’t even think about them two winning the nomination
“So get rid of mandates that say hospitals have to provide health care to every individual.
Remove mandates, don’t add them.”
