McLean, VA - Senator Fred Thompson today issued the following statement about his campaign for President:
"Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for President of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people."
Fred and his family have been in my prayers. I wish only the best for them.
I’m greatly concerned about the state of this country. The average American is grossly uninformed and has been conditioned to act like sheep. We truly have a severe leadership problem in this country.
... Apparently, the masses would rather have are so cowed by Hillary that they let their fear dictate choosing a socialist/democrat lite with an R behind their name rather than to have a true conservative for President. God Bless you Fred and God help our country!
Exactly, what am I going to do with this T-shirt my wife bought me?
I'm very disappointed Fred, I thought you had the country's best interest at heart.
Churchill would never would have pulled this crap. :-(
Thanks so much, Politicalmom for all you did to keep the FREDheads informed. I’m going through withdrawls. Is there a 12 step program for us?
Which is no different than the liberals 2004 Anyone but Bush mantra. Its not a principled vote made in good conscience to simply for for someone because of who theyre not.
Ewwwwwww! Zinger! Right to the heart of it.
Don't we all. But Romney is probably the most vulnerable to the Clinton attack machine, with McCain a close second. If Romney is the candidate, then there will be all sorts of underground whisper campaigns about his Mormonism. You'll see a bunch of stories about the wacko polygamist Mormons out on the fringes, none traceable to the Billary Bunch of course. Not that Hillary cares about Mormonism, good or bad, she just wants power, at any price. For myself, I'd gladly vote for any Mormon who was a real conservative as most, but not all, are.
If McCain is the opponent, she'll just have to insert a few questions that hit his hot buttons, and he'll lose his temper, live on National TV, and go the way of Dean, although he probably won't end up as the chair of the RNC. :)
McCain's rise is a dramatic turn in a state where former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani was the favorite last fall before fading in the early decision states of Iowa, New Hampshire and Michigan.
After being widely written off last year, McCain now is preferred by 39 percent of Republicans, compared with 16 percent for Giuliani and 11 percent for former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, according to the poll by the Center for Survey Research and Analysis at the University of Connecticut.
Thomson is whom I'll vote for in the primary.
Screw McInsane.
If we do not have a real conservative in the race, then I will not vote in the Presidential race. We have other races to vote in. If some of you do not like it, too bad.
Thank you so much, everyone. It’s been wonderful working next to all of you on Fred’s behalf.
I like what Jim Geraghty over at National Review said — if Fred can’t be Reagan, he’ll be Goldwater. We badly need someone who can again lay out “first principles” of conservatism. Fred’s not going away. And I hope that a future candidate can build on what he’s done in this race.
As for me, I’m no longer practicing political relativism. Moral relativism has sent us into a downward spiral, and political relativism is doing the same thing. None of the current presidential candidates meets my personal absolute threshhold; as a result they do not earn my consideration or my vote. However, I will work to promote as many down-ticket conservatives as possible, because we’re going to need them.
Agreed. I’ll vote against Hillary, but I won’t be voting *for* any candidate this year.
Sigh. Guess I gotta change my tagline now.
I'm listening to steady-eddie Bill Evans Trio jazz to get a grip and put things in perspective! *sigh*
About the only thing I can think now is that it's out of my hands regardless, I might as well be philosophical. I know, it's all about me! But hey ... I'll let other wiser heads decide; it's beyond my ken. It's like getting a multiple choice test that says: two plus two is:
a) 3
b)5
c)6
d)22
Senator John McCain is Ross Perot meets an evil Majority Leader Bob Dole with some Admiral James Stockdale added for good measure. I don’t care what any poll says, he is unelectable. The base (us, for instance) will not vote for him, period! Governor Mitt Romney’s squeaky clean background and personal fortune will compensate for the Mormon issue. Governor Mike Huckabee and Mayor Rudy Giuliani might as well drop out tomorrow, they have about as much chance as Rep. Dennis Kucinich. Hell, Congressman Ron Paul has a better chance at it! At least he knows how to raise money!
Not Islam. No way could I ever vote for someone who took the oath of office with his hand placed on the Koran. ...regardless of his conservative credentials.
Too bad no one is conservative enough for some of you. Some of us won’t like it if folks like you stay home, but at least we’ll know who to cast the blame on if the Hillary or Obama get elected.
Thanks for blowing off America!
Warm up your vocal cords 'cause the chances are high and rising. Unfortunately. Wouldn't want you to cause yourself any permanent damage.
