McLean, VA - Senator Fred Thompson today issued the following statement about his campaign for President:
"Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for President of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people."
No, you can write a name in on a ballot. Or you can pressure Reps to come up with a different candidate than the one who has the most delegates.
I’m absolutely sick over this.....
Fred - thanks for trying. Apparently, the masses would rather have socialist/democrat lite with an “R” behind their name than to have a true conservative for President. God Bless you Fred and God help our country!
Yes indeed. We are working on him if the next go around needs him. But Y’all can’t have him just yet.
Jellybean - standing beside you and Fred.
I, too, am not endorsing another candidate.....sad day at my house - the day my fellow so-called conservatives let me down.
While true, it's still a crying shame.
I weep for my country and its Constitution, which I am sworn to defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
Between Fred dropping out and the Bush administration brief in "Heller", the enemy is now officially within as well as without.
The point I was trying to make is that we should vote for whomever the candidate eventually turns out to be.
Thank you both.
Not sure about you guys, but, I just cannot vote for any of the “leftovers”.
I’m thinking strategy, right now.
Fred ran for President?
Oh you better believe I am!!! I had already decided to write his name in on Super Tuesday in the Missouri Primary yesterday if he announced he was stepping out of the race. My sister, who is a Fredhead too, said she would do the same thing.
Oh snap!
“RUMSFELD: “You go to war with the army you have, not with the army you want!””
...and we see where that got us.
I understand your point, I used to say that back last summer. No more. I’m voting for my congressman, and writing in Fred. The ones running [Guiliani, Paul, Romney, McCain] will not get my vote. They’d have to find a good candidate to be the nominee. Fred is the only one I can see.
What you said “Please dont hold anything against other FReepers. Its called political fervor. Many get carried away.” That was me last summer, but things got ugly, the 11th commandment went out the window. I asked some who were friends to please not say their fervered comments to me, but they did it anyway. It has severed my relationships with several Freepers already. This campaign has done a lot of damage to me with some who used to be my friends on this website. I cannot go back to the way it was before with some of them.
I think a lot of us are in the same boat as you, Lilly.
(And I will be literally holding my nose while I do it!)
No, don’t surrender your vote. Make it count for something, even if it’s a protest vote.
For instance, let’s say that 93 million citizens voted...
50 million vote for rats
16 million vote for myth
14 million vote for yukabee
6 million voted for RuPaul
4 million for {enter name of protest candidate here]
The press will have a field day with 5% of the vote protesting.
The losing candidates will have knipshin fits over losing by such a small margin of folks they didn’t listen to.
The RNC will not ever hear the end of it.

I agree. God Bless Fred and his family.
