I was not a Fred supporter but sympathize with Fred and his supporters and my heart goes out to them. I would be equally as upset if it were my candidate.

Fred was across-the-board, conservative on the issues. That's why I supported him post after post for 10 months. Too bad the Goober Huckabee supporters in SC don't feel that way.
Anyway, Mitt is running a fairly conservative campaign and Huckabee, McCain, Paul and Rudy are not.
I will support Mitt and his conservative campaign.

Well, now I need to go back to my old tagline. Dang. Guess I’ll change it when I pick a new candidate.

Just dropping by to add my post here. Haven’t wanted to deal with this news today, so haven’t read even a single post on the thread.
I am saddened if this turns out to be true, but I hope something can be resurrected from the remnants of the hopes and dreams we all had for Fred.
Best wishes to the best man for the job!

I will write in Fred’s name.
If the NRC wanted Fred to run, why didn’t they support him more?

He should endorse Duncan Hunter and then when the Huckster flames out, DH will reenter the race and be a top tier candidate.

With Hunter and Thompson out, that leaves only poor choices. I'd take third party before Huckabee or McCain (they represent 70% of what is wrong with the Republican party - Rudy represents the other 30%, and Rudy is done. For me, that leaves Paul and Romney, and I'm strongly leaning towards Paul (in spite of his foreign policy and gold standard views).

So Michael Reagan was on Fox this morning with Pat Cadell to discuss the after-Fred factor. Fred was barely mentioned, instead Michael kept repeating “brokered convention” and concluded that the base is just dying for Newt who will be chosen at a brokered convention. (rrrrrright...) Poor Pat didn’t get a word in edgewise and then the topic turned to the age factor and McCain.

Republicans seem to do better when they’re the minority party. If Fred Thompson had a message that America was ready for, he would have gotten more votes—plain and simple. The Republican party had better get it’s house in order or they’re going to be minority for a while.

Oh well, we're doomed. Let's hope it'll be minimal damage until 2012.< sigh > I can't describe how deflated and disappointed I feel now.
Duncan Hunter is out of the race. Fred Thompson is out of the race. And I don't particularly care for any of the other candidates. I dunno; I quit.
