Carl Cameron says it'll become offical sometime later this week.
Oh well, we're doomed. Let's hope it'll be minimal damage until 2012.
Excellent post. You nailed it.
I said THAT a while back. Let's see if you get called a Troll.
Time tells. Reality sets in.
Now it's time to re-group and FIGHT to KEEP Hillary and Obama OUT!!
What'd he do?
Voting for McCain destroys what remains of our sovreignty!
Everyone needs some time on this.
There is an inclination of people to want to fight because conflict is more interesting than agreement and cheer leading, but I hope folks don’t instantly adopt an attitude from a fight while spirits are so high from bad news.
Romney is the smartest guy in the room. We all know it. There is enormous value to that in an environment where the other party has the majority. He is probably one of the most brilliant financial minds of the past 100 years, and there is enormous value to that, too. The lack of evidence of fervor for the most right wing or ideology is trumped by the combination of his brilliance and the fact he is rightward of the Democrats.
McCain is not a traitor. People are going way overboard in their rhetoric. His inescapable problem is he cannot be rewarded for the contempt he showed for conservatism last year. If he were to be rewarded for that it would profoundly dishonor last year’s outpouring of activism and rage by conservatism. It is THAT which is a wall that cannot be passed. It was a choice he made, consciously, and with clear intention to abuse the GOP base. He can’t be rewarded for it. He’s out.
Huckabee does not play in Romney’s intellectual league. He brings nothing to the table at all beyond dislike of Bush’s efforts to defend the country and a penchant for funding “art classes” for children of illegal aliens.
Guilliani is overtly pro Choice. He is neck deep in personal scandals. The country hasn’t been thoroughly educated on them because he has not warranted the attack. He would if he were the nominee. It’s pointless to support an overtly pro Choice nominee with obvious dirt in his background.
“Sorry, that aint gonna happen. Huckabee hates Mormons and I think Romney is much smarter than that.”
Ronald Reagan was not a fan of George H.W. Bush either. Bush had called Reagan’s supply side policies “voodoo economics” during the primary campaign, yet when it came time to choose a running mate who could bring in votes, Reagan selected Bush. It wasn’t the first time that a presidential ticket included people who didn’t like each other but needed each other’s support. Romney will need a solid mainstream Christian vice-president from a well established mainstream faith.
My guess is that Fred will endorse McCain and it will come as a shock and disappointment to many on Free Republic. That’s just my gut feeling.
Thanks for the perspective. The things that bedevil us are way beyond politics. I don't get as exercised about the national political scene as I used to (unless of course there's a clear and present threat). The real action isn't at the national level anymore, it's at the local parish.
Oh well. I guess I won’t get my Fred Thompson sign.
This will help Huck until he runs out of money.
Eeeuwww. Hillary on TV wearing a yellow suit.
She looks like a BANANA SLUG.
:-)
If you're talking about re-seeking the nomination, then absolutely not.
And I still call McCain a traitor, not just because of his support for foreign invasion of our land, but also for his
socialist tax policies,
subversion of judge appointments,
denial of Americans their freedom of speech via CFR,
providing comfort to the enemy by his public denunciation of Camp Delta at Guantanamo Bay and statements regarding water bordeing as torture,
his support for the destruction of our economy by his attempts to 'global warming', among other issues.
Wrong - they realize that the war should have been won within the six years we've been in there.
Surrendering when the war is 95% won is not a winning strategy. If Americans wanted a surrender monkey, they had ample opportunity to vote for one in 2004.
Yeah, and they almost did too. Remember that if it wasn't for Ohio and the evangelicals, Bush would have lost. That says a lot about the independent vote although obviously re-electing Bush and fighting the war was a no-brainer to me. But staying there for a 100 years like McCain suggested is equally suicidal. You are not going to kill every last terrorist over there regardless how long we stay there. You are misreading the electorate. People want the war to wind down which is why Democrat primary voters are beating GOP voters more than 2-to-1, and why Clinton and Obama both raised $100 million last year.
No, Maryland
“we’d better get ready to say President Hillary or President Obama because the GOP is toast.”
Only if you make it so.
“Romney/Gingrich”
You MUST be kidding me. No healthcare mandates!
About 100%.
Thank You.
ya know... i thought that for a minute.
when there was speculation and grassroots efforts in emailing this one and that, i decided to put my money where my mouth was and sent him 2x $25 donations late last night.
If he knew he was dropping out, maybe he should have shut down the little red truck.
I am sorry for his mom and am bereft with his dropping out... but I do not believe that he just made this decision this morning. I kinda think he should have stopped taking money when he knew he was out.
sorry, just speaking my mind.
This is the worst presidential election cycle I have ever witnessed.
The republicans have lost their core and are pushing hard for the “center”.
Moderates suck!
You miss the point...
You change EXACTLY NOTHING from the outside looking in.
If you GET INVOLVED in the Party process, you give a voice to your ideas.
It has worked for evangelicals.
It has worked for the Gays.
It has worked for the Hispanics.
It has worked for the blacks.(well, maybe not so much)
It will work FOR US, if we just take the time to do it...
Romney's record is the complete opposite of his rhetoric. He's like the convict who found Jesus right before his parole hearing... "I know I did bad things, but I am a new person. Trust me."
But in the end I will end up voting for any but Giuliani.
