Fox News ^

Posted on 01/22/2008 11:17:25 AM PST by tpanther

Carl Cameron says it'll become offical sometime later this week.

Oh well, we're doomed. Let's hope it'll be minimal damage until 2012.

I don’t call them “AntiWar”, I call them “Anti-Truth”...

They are vehemently AGAINST every factual argument, preferring hyperbole or emotions, instead...

Duncan Hunter dropped out Saturday.

Considering how fractured the GOP is becoming Hunter may still be in the race if there is a brokered convention.

Honestly the worst campaign is officially Giuliani in my opinion. He hasn’t gotten any support and he is banking on a showing if Florida which seems to be going by the wayside.

Fred could never overcome the narrative written about him.

As badly as we’ve been knocked around by FRed’s supporters, I offer my sympathy to those who counted on his candidacy.

But at the very least, Romney is paying lip service to all the conservative principles, you may doubt his sincerity, but he at least is trying to court the conservative vote. McCain is openly contempt of conservatives.

Which means as president, Romney will at least listen to conservatives if nothing else for political expediency. McCain will simply ignore conservatives. There is a huge difference.

All these Mittwits that think the Thompson voters are going to run to Mutt freaking Romney are smoking crack!

An anti-gun pro- queer agenda NE liberal puke wont be getting many of those voters!

I expect now the NRA will get up off its a$$ and endorse Huckabilly and the NRTL will likely do the same.

I no longer care who gets the nomination as long as it isn’t one of the NE liberal puke twins!

False.

I feel just as miserable as any one here, but healing will take place if we all start looking forward to victory in November, not back to this black day.

Hear ye, hear ye. Stoutly said. Look at this as the glass half full, not half empty. Fred was a good man, but didn’t make it. Now,if we aren’t careful, the MSM will try to wipe out the one remaining conservative, Mitt Romney. At that point, McCain will win. We must stop him, he’s a Democrat.

Leni, Mitt Romney cannot beat hillary/obama-mama. As such, I’ll likely just be getting out of the way.

It really doesn’t matter which RINO wins the primary now, I couldn’t care less. The conservatives have been driven from the field.

[Hunter's] still in the mix if there is a brokered convention.

No he's not. Give it up. I'm as likely to be the "consensus candidate" as a relatively unknown Congressman who couldn't run a competent primary campaign is.

I had been hoping a brokered convention would favor Thompson, but his lack of success while he was in will be the main reason that that won't happen either.

Sorry, the other candidates stink. It wasn’t about Fred. It’s about the survival of the country, and all the others are pandering socialists. America has become a socialist country b/c the GOP has left the fight for Federalism since 1995. Under Gingrich and Bush, there has been , except for talk radio, an unfettered playing field for liberal propaganda. Even most GOP voters have been so dumbed down that they see conservatives like Fred as “scary”. I guess the Constitution is “scary to our enfeebled American population. Bob

I got the impression his wife was more energized to win the White House than he was.

Well at least he’ll be back on the Paul Harvey Show. Think Tony Snow will still do a turn as well?

Why?

The only reason I can think that McCain might have something on Romney is that I suspect he would have an easier time beating Hillary. But the reason is that McCain’s more liberal.

Carl Cameron has “broken” this story three times.

Surely it's been more than that. Of course FOX, in general, has been the official Fred Thompson coroner network since he entered the race. Nevertheless, It appears they have finally succeeded.

I'm proud to have supported Fred and, among the leaders in this race, he was (and still is) clearly the best man and the right choice for conservatives and for our nation. Had Huckabee lost steam even one week sooner, Fred would have taken 2nd in SC and we'd have a real race going into the south. But it did not happen and we are where we are.

It is now apparent that far too many people in this country are incapable of understanding the concept of sacrifice for one's country. Fred was living a good life with his cherished wife and 2 young children and had established a successful career apart from politics which he put aside when he was called upon to run for President. I appreciate Fred Thompson for his willingness to offer himself up to this thankless and humiliating process for the sake of America and our future. He is a patriot and one of a dying breed.

God Bless Fred Thompson and his family.

Fred was the first politician I’ve felt invested enough in to donate money. Fred is a fine man, the best our party had to offer, and I would do it again.

“We welcome your thoughts in considering Romney after you have come to acceptance of the unpleasant news.”

I want to like Mitt Romney. I honestly do. I just hate the history of flip flopping in the name of winning an election. Does he show that he can be conservative? Yep. He’s also IMPLEMENTED some horrible, liberal legislation in Massachusetts. How am I supposed to support a person like this after slamming John Kerry in 2004 for doing the same thing (well, Kerry also had treason in his past too, but let’s just focus on the flip flopping). That kind of behavior makes one a hypocrite!

While not very vocal on this forum (I mostly lurk), I supported Fred (still do). I would have strongly supported Duncan Hunter if I thought he had a prayer. Hell, I’d support Ron Paul if the wingnut wasn’t so damn obtuse on Iraq (OK, that’s a stretch :-) ).

Now that Fred’s gone, I find myself without a candidate. If Romney didn’t have a history of “John Kerry Disorder” w/o the treason (what I call JK Flip Flop Disorder for those Computer Engineers out there), I could strongly support the man. Unfortunately, for now, I am undecided....again. *sigh*

By the way, this is not meant to trash Romney....it’s simply based on my observations.

Sorry but Willards no convert if the winds of political change blow hard enough he will do whatever is asked of him. He is no pro-life, he is not pro-second amendment, and he is not against a national healthcare entitlement..
