I respect those of you who express these sentiments, though I am inclined to go with whatever candidate the Republicans ultimately nominate. I liked Duncan Hunter, but that was then, this is now, and I’ll just wait and see what the convention brings.
As far as what Tom Delay thinks, I don’t much care. I thought Delay left Washington in disgrace and was among the cast of scummy actors whose antics helped cause the Republican party to lose control of the Congress. As far as I’m concerned, nothing he has to say is of interest to me unless it might be “I’m sorry I let the party down”. I won’t be influenced by anything he has to say about the forthcoming election.

There are those who take the viewpoint that "RINO candidate (name) is still a better choice than Democrat candidate (name)." This type of thinking results in conservatives becoming thralls to a RINO oligarchy, much as the African Americans have been used by the Democrats for so many years. These voters are happy getting thrown a bone every once in a blue moon, while getting boned (pardon the pun) the rest of the time.
Those who take the opposite viewpoint know that, sometimes, in order to build something correctly, one must tear down the faulty existing structure and start building anew from the ground up -- a concept well-known to boot camp drill instructors, who must first tear down what 18 years of society has built before building a marine, a sailor, a solider.
I am in the second group. I'm tired of aiding-and-abetting the same old crap and never seeing any improvement. Sometimes it takes four years of pain and suffering in order for some people to finally acknowledge what the right course of action should be.
We can say we’re mad as hell without ripping each other a new one and acting like general idiots.

I spoke with a lot of conservatives recently and only one will vote for McCain. They were ex-military. McCain will lose in a landslide because the base will stay home.
Plus the man is nuts.
I will not vote for him and if we get a Democrat, so what. We’ve had them before, we’ll have them again. My ticket will go Libertarian or blank.
Considering how vocal that Tancredo’s been on the border, I don’t consider it an accident that he endorsed Romney.

No matter how many times that AA’s vote D, the problems never get fixed. I refuse to vote R simply because ‘they’re not as bad as the other guy’.
I won’t use my vote to vote against the other guy when it’s across the aisle. But I will absolutely do so to McCain.
If liberal policies are going to be passed by a president, let a liberal president do it. We can rebuild.

I will never vote for John McCain. If the GOP is foolish enough to nominate him, they can have him. I will not be supporting an amnesty loving, free speech chilling, big government Republican period end of story.

If McCain gets the nom, passes all this liberal legislation, conservatives will never be taken seriously again. Reagan will be written off as a one time anomaly and McCain will be cast as the typical conservative in the liberal media.

I was attacked right away because I support McCain. Talk about manners.

Several conservative candidates have been in the primaries, but attracted few votes. (Near as I can remember, those candidates were members of the GOP.)
Therefore, I would say the primary voters deserted the conservative GOP candidates.
It is therefore more logical to blame the voters. Florida Jan. 29th and California Feb. 5th will be Republican voters only in the GOP side of the primary.
That ought to give folks a clear look at the sentiments of the majority of GOP voters.
More votes matters. I can’t call immediately to mind the universally agreed definition of “the base.”
Back during the Reagan conservative era, it was widely recognized he showed people which ideas worked best for the economy, and against communism.
He convinced people, he converted moderates, independents, democrats to his way of thinking. He taught. He reminded. He showed examples. He didn’t call people names.
Conservatives seem to have completely lost common sense, replacing mature civility and persuasion, with adolescent name calling. And thereby converting nobody, but repelling many.
So if you want things to wind up being more conservative, go out and persuade your neighbors and friends why conservative ideas are the best. Convince them to vote conservative (usally means Republican)
Even if you think they are stupid, your chances of getting them to vote the way you want is to hold your tongue, refrain from calling them stupid.
Who knows? They might even vote conservative several times in a row, after your friendly and persuasive nudge to do so the first time.
Oh, come on. You would actually vote for the evil witch? At least vote for the libertarian or independent if you can’t vote for the Republican nominee.
