It's really weird driving your car in the morning . . . the tires make a thump-thump-thump sound for the first few miles -- from being frozen somewhat flat on one side all night long.
Here in Wyoming, I once stood in -40°F to wait for the school bus. It didn't get above 0° for two weeks.
Once it's less than about -10°F, the cold just hurts more. I don't even register it as "colder", only more painful.
LOL
Yep. 'Familiar with that. And having to jump out of the car and slam the door FAST, hoping it hasn't frozen so's it won't close. Have to carry a spray bottle of alcohol in case.
But thank goodness we don't get the wide-open winds as much as up your way in the Canadian plains.
Have a friend in Texas - gets cold there too, as he says: "The only thing between us and Canada is a barbed wire fence in Kansas - and it's down half the time."
That's assuming you can get into your car. I've had a few mornings lately with temps around +3 F and doors that would not open on my F-150. I deiced the windshield before trying to drive my son to work. That lasted about 200 yards into a 2.5 mile trip. The deicing windshield washer fluid froze instantly on the windshield. A bottle of spray-on decing fluid worked well enough to continue the trip. The other unpleasant part of the trip was a frozen throttle cable. The truck backed out of the driveway just fine in reverse with the engine idling. I put in in drive and the gas pedal wouldn't move. I had to stand on it to get it to move at all.
We're having a heat wave this afternoon. The temperature is all the way up to +10 F. It is supposed to drop to -6 F this evening.
