With popularity comes notoriety. Thats the lesson Ron Paul is learning as the nation observes Martin Luther King Day and the GOP presidential contender bears the burden of disparaging comments, made in a newsletter bearing his name, about the slain civil rights leader and the national holiday that honors him.

Is it possible that conservatism-hating Ron Paul whackjobs have been leaving FR, and that actual conservatives have remained?
The fact that the GOP helped end slavery in no way obligates us to worship Martin Luther King, particularly when he was willing to act as apologist for a bloodthirsty enemy that desired to enslave an entire nation.
Your memory may be shaky, but here is the reason why there’s no more “Washington’s Birthday”. Businesses were losing too much money having two winter holidays so close together, so they merged Lincon’s birthday and Washington’s birthday into one.
And yes, he may have been a radical lefty, but this radical lefty was the force we needed to make sure our country didn’t become another South Africa.
And so what if he was a Communist and a womanizer? Einstein had Communist affiliations as well too. So did Helen Keller. Thomas Jefferson was a womanizer. Does that mean we should protest every Helen Keller school for the blind, stop teaching the theory of relativity in schools and melt down every nickel because they had those character flaws, or should we praise the good they did despite the fact that they had dubious character flaws?
So answer me this, why cherrypick MLK’s foibles but not other historical figures foibles?
True, 1 could say Clinton had no redeeming qualities - but liberals DID say that and do think he does, and has “accomplishments”.
Just saying it’s not a very good argument. We’re all aware of “flaws”.
George had almost no flaws, incidentally.
Actually, we’re not talking “flaws”, we’re talking major cardinal sins.
We all have “flaws”, but haven’t necessarily broken any of the 10 Commandments.
“I know I’ve already responded to this, but wanted to point this out: like I said, youre a race baiter. Is this type of baiting something you’re proud of?”
Rich.
Actually, you are.
Anyone who follows that link back can see it plainly.
“the force we needed to make sure our country didnt become another South Africa.”
Come now. You can’t possibly believed there was any CHANCE of something like that happening. That is very negative on our country. Typically only liberals display such hyperbolic negativity about the US.
In fact, the civil-rights movement worked partly because more white people didn’t really care that much about whether they sat with a black person.
If the whole nation was really hateful of blacks (rather than just not thinking about it much), the Civil Rights Act and related would’ve caused major uproar by WHITES all over; maybe some rioting. The transition, if you will, would not have been at all smooth. Most people just let it slide because it just wasn’t that important to them to be separate from blacks. They’d even had too much influence by popular artists and the like alone to be really hateful.
Count me as a conservative who doesn't think we should have a national day of worship named after a radical lefty.
but this radical lefty was the force we needed to make sure our country didnt become another South Africa.
Take a look at today's South Africa, a violent, horrific nation dominated by a Marxist gang of thugs known as the ANC and maybe you'll see some irony in your statement.
This is the Clinton tactic. Tear down other people from American history to build someone else up. None of us are perfect, but to the best of my knowledge none of the above people supported the enemy in wartime. Nor is anyone suggesting that there should be a national holiday named after them. Nor that we should set aside a portion of each year to reflect on how perfect and deserving of worship they are. Nor has anyone suggested they are beyond criticism. Nor is a statue being built of them to stand opposite the Lincoln Memorial, designed specifically to tower over it.
So answer me this, why cherrypick MLKs foibles but not other historical figures foibles?
It took a fight to get an airport named after Ronald Reagan. And he never sided with the enemy or mistreated women. And Reagan brought down the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Empire. And only he could have done that. King was just a charismatic guy who got in front of the TV cameras faster than his associates, such as Abernathy. Yet, imagine the firestorm of opposition if someone suggested that we should have a Ronald Reagan day and a huge monument to Reagan in Washington.
Well, I am not going to return the name-calling because that is what trolls and liberals do. So, after celebrating those B’days for more than a century it was suddenly decided inconvenience was an issue. Right!
Where have I ever said we should worship Martin Luther King?
And you are just as disgusting as your cohorts.
“Get help. You need it!”
Funny how people like you always use that same hackneyed phrase when people don’t agree with your opinions. So do we all accept the fact that king was a plagiarist? This discovery in a dissertation is normally grounds for revoking a degree.
Wow, even with there being less Paulinoids they still almost seem louder and dumber than ever...
And that is a feat...
It is like a train werck, I am repulsed, yet cannot look away...
Well, I can. I'm disgusted and in no mood for such depravity.
I just reinstalled Ubunto 7.04 on a small extended partition after trying 7.10 (which is slow as molasses). Now I have to figure how to get my touchpad disabled again so my cursor doesn't go wacky when I type.
LOL....you’re the one hollering for help crybaby.
you’re used to pushing folks around with your little race baiting smears
every cracker doesn’t just roll over and play dead do they?
you kill me.
conservatism today...gotta love it
As for the Paul fools, consider the source. I mean tossing around the term racist while supporting a guy who gets funds from White Supremacist, I mean who can make this $hit up?
Keep it up, I love it, it keeps me in stitches.
I'm not a Linux freak; far from it. I only started with it a couple months ago. I backed up the recovery files that came with my laptop on a small fat32 partition, then changed it to an extended partition with a separate swap partition for Ubuntu. 7.04 runs great but then I tried 7.10. Windows XP loads to desktop in 1.75 minutes. Ubuntu 7.10 takes 2.75 minutes! Ubuntu 7.04 takes less than a minute. So, I'm back to that.
The problem with a Synoptics touchpad is that while typing, the cursor can jump around all over the place if the touchpad is operable. It can be disabled, but first you have to install a small application, and that application can't run unless a file is edited, adding a command to the touchpad section. And to edit that file you have to run 'Terminal' and do 'Sudo' commands. It's like having to use a DOS window in Windows to edit files. They require that for security purposes, but it's a real bummer.
Anyway, I made the change and I'm typing this from Ubuntu. It works!
because that's who we're talking about on this thread.
I'll be glad to talk about anybody of any color or ethnicity or religion who has their own personal US national holiday or for that matter any other figure you'd like
no I don't buy that argument....about Presidents Day......they combined the others to make room for King to have his own....unmerited in my view.
maybe a National Heroes day like some British West Indies nations have....that would make room for others too
nor do I believe this nation was in danger of becoming South Africa since unlike South Africa we are approximately 11% black (and going down) not 75-80% black like South Africa....speaking of which ....do you really think South Africa is much of a benchmark of anything these days aside from a study in decline?
that's cruel picking on Helen Keller, you should be ashamed?
I just have to ask...do they send you guys out in waves or pickets?...lol
you've all been trained in the same perspective, this new funky moderate social thing where conservatives are supposed to embrace 60s racial and social idealism at face value
so weird for a conservative forum
we have folks posting threads over and over....some of the same folks who always post together....bashing doofuss Ron Paul for having his pic taken (probably not knowing better) with NeoNazis and maybe some linking to him or maybe he doesn't like the King holiday much for whatever reason and some here feel the need to trumpet that fact over and over like he's a bonafide Klukker.
what is the purpose? Paul is laregly irrelevant as are true white racists these days ...it just smells like some folks here get off on smearing conservatism in general and even this site and they all parrot the same lines.....I see this daily (maybe not you but who knows)....many even link far left sites in this attack on Paul and his supporters
Stormfront has tried to link to FR for years at times but that doesn't mean FR is a Stormfront site
Over the years I have seen a handful of true racist agitators here....yet some here would like to smear Paul folks as racists ...
For me this obsession with white racism is nuts, our culture today has arguably 99% less true white racism than 50 years so why keep beating the drum? It's so self serving and it makes folks do what you want. I understand that allure. It grants power over others, whites being so afraid to be called racist. They'd rather be called a child molester.
But it's terribly dishonest and self serving and in the long run destructive.
I think their little posse are all very young.
They sure write that way.
All yeehaw, no facts.
except one.....he was quite cogent even though I disagree with him.
Kids....somewhere there’s somebody loves them and their self serving race baiting.
