"...As soon as Thompson entered the race, analysts began wondering aloud why he got in, saying that he didn't show the fire in the belly that's necessary to run successfully for president. The image of Thompson as a laid-back slowpoke became fodder for late-night television comedians.
Woodard said that Thompson finally appeared to hit his stride on the stump in the Palmetto State, speaking to overflow crowds in the past week.
"Here's what happens when you're a candidate -- you get better as you go along," he said. "The problem is Huckabee's got a three-month jump on him. Fred is a good, tough candidate. If he was like this in September, things might be different."

It works like this:
"candidates who have chosen to run for President of the United States, under the Republican banner" have historically been thought of as more conservative across the board than those who chose to run under the demorcat banner. Our experience with GWB (Jorge), with McPain, and (saw this one coming) Arnold of California, suggest that the distinctions have eroded. The current list of potential candidates confirms the fear by including zero conservative content and damn little believable rhetoric...except for Thompson.
If there is no difference between the two parties - where is the benefit of having two parties?
It isn't candidate worship, it's candidate vacuum. But, if you define a vacuum as (relatively) 'negative', then your post is about half right.
Feel free to talk about results, results are in fact real, portraying supporters as claiming that Thompson is George Washington or Jesus is crap and will continue to be crap whenever it is stated.
These days, I feel the only thing left to ask is:
"Will the last Conservative to leave the GOP please turn out the lights."
What did Romney do to destroy the ProLife cause?
I'll tell you what. Nothing.
Even the National ProLife recognized his decent record, especially considering he was battling for his political survival in an uber-Lib Northeast state.
And even if Romney DID make a bad choice, I can accept the fact that he now realizes the error of his previous statements.
Like Limbaugh said, Romney had the decency and honesty to ADMIT he was wrong, and apologized for his past statements.
Other politicians refuse to even admit they were wrong on issues, which to me says they still THINK themselves to have been right all along.
Romney is an honest person.
You can post six year old Romney statements till the cows come home. I really don’t care.
I believe Romney has returned to his faith-based roots, and now totally supports the ProLife cause.
Like Limbaugh said, a person who is not genuine does NOT apologize or even admit their mistake.
Romney not only apologized for his past statements, he admits he was wrong, and vowed to push the ProLife cause.
Can you think of any other candidate who had such integrity.
“I believe Mitt Romney’s conversion to the ProLife cause is genuine,” Limbaugh said today.
Limbaugh is very perceptive, and a very smart man.
My point is this: he has not done anything - taken any action other than his recent positional change - to show me he is not going to do the same thing in the future. He bent to public opinion and the legislature as a governor, I expect he would do the same as president.
I don’t need someone taking polls to determine what to do - I want a leader in the White House. That’s what he DIDN’T do was lead. Protecting the status quo is not leadership, it is cowardice.
I believe as Rush believes, not because I’m a mind numbed robot, but because I have believed that the two candidates who will make a new party you speak of, are McCain and Huckabee. The other three speak in conservative language, despite the fact that they are not complete and utter conservative. You tell me who is, other than Ron Paul.
confirms the fear by including zero conservative content.
A real stretch, or you aren’t listening, or you don’t choose to believe what you aren’t hearing. There are three candidates who stand for the right border security and no amnesty, who are right on Iraq, who believe in making the Bush tax cuts permanent, and a host of other ideas completely 180 degrees opposite to principles espoused by the democrat party. You are listening to way to much Mainstream Media IMHO, if you believe otherwise.
The three candidates are not McCain or Huckabee, Ron Paul could be considered a fourth except he is off the wall on Iraq and the war against Radical Islam. Anyone who thinks that the principles of the democrat party are the same as the Republican, has not bothered to read the party platform, and until it changes I’ll choose the Republican.
I think it's true I'll never see
A Lib more glib than Huckabee.
and pro-Abortion (Romney again)
Believe me I understand your feelings, unfortunately that is what they are feelings. I believe as you that McCain is not what the country needs nor do I believe Huckabee is the answer, but the other three offer sufficient conservative principles to warrant my vote if they win the primary.
Romney has explained his earlier stand, and explained he is firmly pro-life. The fact that you choose to believe otherwise is of little consequence.
I don’t apologize for the apparent weakness of the present group of Republican candidates but you either believe that there are three who have the best interest of the country at heart, and who are sufficiently conservative, or you vote dem, sit out and cut off your nose to spite your face.
Standing on principle is certainly principled if you don’t give a Hoover dam about the fate of the country in the hands of those who are just chomping at the bit to remain not just in power, but completely and totally in power. You haven’t begun to see gun rights eroded if you think Romney is anti gun. Can you name an anti gun law he has personally gotten past a legislature.
Here are a few things Romney did. I found them in a 35 second search. The National ProLife organization has more.
Besides, pick any Republican conservative Governor... and tell me what THEY'VE done specifically in the past five years to promote the ProLife cause.
If it's so easy, I'm sure you can rattle off accomplishments of .... say Haley Barbour... or Robert Erlich of Maryland, or Jeb Bush of Florida, or Mike Huckabee of Arkansas, for that matter.
Here are a few things Romney did....
Are they earth shattering? No. but he DID many ProLife things.
- Governor Romney Vetoed Legislation That Would Have Provided For The "Morning After Pill" Without A Prescription. (Governor Mitt Romney, Op-Ed, "Why I Vetoed The Contraception Bill," The Boston Globe, 7/26/05)
- Governor Romney Promoted Abstinence Education In The Classroom. (Office Of Governor Mitt Romney, "Romney Announces Award Of Abstinence Education Contract," Press Release, 4/20/06)
- Governor Romney Vetoed Legislation That Would Have Changed The Longstanding Definition Of The Beginning Of Human Life From Fertilization To Implantation. (Governor Mitt Romney, Letter To The Massachusetts State Senate And House Of Representatives, 5/12/05)
- Governor Romney Supports Parental Notification Laws And Opposed Efforts To Weaken Parental Involvement. (John McElhenny, "O'Brien And Romney Spar In Last Debate Before Election," The Associated Press, 10/29/02)
- Governor Romney Supports Adult Stem Cell Research But Has Opposed Efforts To Advance Embryo-Destructive Research In Massachusetts. (Theo Emery, "Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney Vetoes Stem Cell Bill," The Associated Press, 5/27/05)
A man named Fred
from the Volunteer State.
Proclaimed to Jay Leno
“I’m a Candidate”
He quit his day job,
Several polls he had lead
But a few months later
He turned up dead
His campain in a shambles
Many said, “Don’t Quit”
But a third in S.C.
didn’t accomplish jack shit.
I will not.
From the articles I am reading, from callers to talk radio, and from e-mails I am receiving; it looks like many Conservatives would rather sit this one out than vote for Romeny, Huckabee, or McCain.
If the GOP refuses to nominate a Conservative, I will not do what I did in the past: (give them my money, my time, and my vote).
Good luck.
Clinton is all part of the master plan it appears. Jeb Bush in eight years. You heard it here first.
In this mess he is the closest thing. Let's just say I mistrust him the least.
- Governor Romney Supports Adult Stem Cell Research But Has Opposed Efforts To Advance Embryo-Destructive Research In Massachusetts. (Theo Emery, "Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney Vetoes Stem Cell Bill," The Associated Press, 5/27/05) I believe if you check, the Romulan's proclamation regarding 'donation' of alive 'leftover' embryo-aged humans for 'research' was more recent than 5/27/05! You Mittiacs tell these lies often enough and heatedly enough and you might just slick him into a nomination for your Northeastern liberal. But he will be destroyed by the media in the general because he's not equal to the lies you keep posting for him ... he's a duplicitous liar lusting for more power. Embryos mean nothing to this panderer. Unborn babies mean nothing to him either, as his thirty years of defending abortion on demand show.
“Let’s just say I mistrust him the least.”
Well there are worse reasons to vote for someone.
True.
not with my vote. know florida too well. he was either impotent or complicit in one of the crookedest governments going. you heard it here first.
Again . he maintained the status quo - what did he do to FORWARD the cause?
For the record: I didn’t have to search, I already knew his record on the issue and I am NOT a Romney supporter.
Give me a positive action - something that he did to disrupt the status quo - something to forward the cause of life? You can’t because he did NOTHING - and by doing NOTHING he accomplished his stated goal, one of which he is unabashedly proud - just ask him.
Just in case anyone cares: The MA Parental notification law has been on the books since 1981 - his position in 2002 was consistent with his ‘change nothing’ approach to life issues.
