Huck Camp: Blame Fred
MSNBC ^ | Jan. 19, 2008 | Domenico Montanaro

It's clear who Huckabee camp is blaming for its squeaker of a loss in South Carolina: Fred Thompson.

After Huckabee's gracious concession speech -- in which he had nothing but kind words for John McCain who he said showed great "civility" -- former SC Gov. David Beasley, a Huckabee surrogate, railed against Thompson.

"Fred hurt us in South Carolina," Beasley began. "He had one goal and one goal only -- to distort Mike Huckabee's record so John McCain could pull it out. No ifs, ands or buts about it...

"Thompson came here and just went to the areas where he could gut Huckabee. I have no doubt in my mind, it was Washington politics at its worst.

"One thing about Fred; I love Fred, but Fred's not stupd...I don't think he had any intention in South Carolina but to hurt Mike Huckab... Had Fred Thompson not been in the race, this would have been an overwhelming, dynamic victory for Mike Huckabee."

I think all Republicans should drop out and let the Dem candidate run unopposed... It would be a great conservative revenge. (/SARC)

Sarcasm or not, I think that is basically what is happening anyway. The base is so fractured and fed up that I doubt anyone of these clowns can pull it back together in time.

Amusing how Thompson started the all-out attack on Huckabee...

In what alternate universe did this ever happen?

The lying POS, Huckabee, could not win fair and square and resorted to his stock in trade, the glib lie.

He is disgusting.

As a FRED supporter from the beginning, I would like to have you explain where you get this absurd assumption that A. FRED will come out for Mclame and B. that true conservatives would just blindly follow his endorsement of the Major RINO Mclame.

Sounds like more of same old SORELOSERMAN huckleberry BS.

Sorry to disappoint you with your soreloserman huckleberry bs line, but I’m for Romney. As to Fred, we shall find out shortly if he drops out, and if he throws his support behind McLame. Wait and see time.

We are watching a master at work and don’t realize it. Mitt left SC and goes off to Nevada. Now Huck’s people are bad mouthing McCain and Fred. Fred has been knocking Huck. All the while, Mitt is basking in the glow of his win in Nevada. Fred is probably gone but Mitt won’t get the blame for knocking him off.

A really good general doesn’t run to fight everywhere, he fights when he has the advantage and lets his enemies fight each other.

Would explain Thompson's kid gloves approach with McCain, and the liberal-like hatred he has whipped up against Huckabee, McCain's greatest threat.

The only threat Huckabee poses to McCain is whisker burns on his butt from Mike kissing it so often. Huckabee is running as McCain's VP.

I remember this Beasley character from high school, believe it or not. Real haughty, "high and mighty" kid. He's fifty, now, and a former Governor. The first Governor to unilaterally announce the displacement of the Confederate Battle Flag from Capitol in Columbia. Sure screwed that up, and got fired for it, by the voters. It worked out to everyone's satisfaction, except his, I suppose. Seems there was a misuse of state funds for something or another, too.

Let's get something straight. Not until tonight, perhaps, no majority of the folks everyone is referring to as "evangelicals" has voted for Hucky Cheese. It's a classic exercise in illogic to presume that a majority of, so-called, "evangelicals" have, until now, voted for the Rodent Eater. This may have been true last night in SC, but it's the first of the first. A majority of those who voted for this Clinton straw-man may have been "evangelical," but that does not mean a majority of evangelicals who voted, voted for the Huckster.

This presumptious neurotic, who used to be a mile wide but was never more than an inch deep, has done nothing to improve the reputation of the Southern Baptists.

And having the haughty, high-and-friggin' mighty Beasley whine about their not being able to handle the heat is putting truth to the perception the former Governor of Arkansas has been stopped flat... by McCain. It's Queeg's night, and my hat's off to the little "Regulator." A blind man can see, though, that Romney and Fred split the uncompromising Conservative vote, and together, they would have come in second or a strong third in a three-way split.

If all Fred has accomplished is to slap the paint off the Huck Delusion, then he's done the Republican Party a tremendous favor. I fear he will bow out now, and that's too bad. A substantive Republican has been stymied by a Cult of the Personality that comes close to a heresy of Christianity. It comes close to idol worship from the same set of misguided people who can't tell the difference between Society and Government, but wear a Republican label. A very confused bunch.

And another thing. Just what is an "evangelical?" Does this mean Christian? I heard Freddy Barnes call them "born-agains" tonight, but I thought all Christians believed John correctly reported what Jesus said when he quoted Him saying, "verily, verily, unless you are born again, you cannot inherit the Kingdom of God."

Obviously, this is some kind of codeword with a meaning shared by outsiders, a bigoted, politically correct mockery. Christian or not, our Islamofascist enemies think everyone one in America are Christians; "crusaders," Bin Laden calls us. Thank God, if it's true, for sending us Fred to stop this pasty-faced "funk-a-mentalist" self-parody from becoming the face of America, the face of Christian-America, or the face of Christianity in the ongoing world war still liable to be underway for quite some time.

Bottom line, and for the record, if Fred hadn't been in the race, I hope it's clear as can be to anyone who's interested, Governor Huckabee still would not received this Christian's support. Not now, not ever.

This is a dead on statement. Fred never had any intention of winning. He was pulling punches for McCain (who he endorsed in 2000) so he can be McCains Attorney General or similar. I will vote for ANYONE but McAmnesty.

Fred never had any intention of winning

I just sent another contribution to Fred08.com. ...Less than 5 minutes ago.

I'm relishing my freedom to show support for the candidate I like, whether he succeeds or not.

I don't want to look back, some day, and kick myself for timidity in standing up for my beliefs.

Even if Fred drops out, one more small voice had a chance to speak out against golden tongued libs like Huckabee.

The Chicago Tribune says Huckabee spoiled Thompson's efforts, rather than the other way around.

S.C. primary could cut Thompson out of script

So, what happened? "In a word: Huckabee," said David Woodard , a political scientist at Clemson University

No matter. I live in NY, but I have provided my own chance to "vote" for Thompson's viewpoint 2 times -- by contributing to his campaign 2 times.

And yet, when Fred spoke it was about actual, ya know, ISSUES.

when Huck spoke it was more cheerful, to be sure....but it was a serious of quips about Metiemucil, Hollywood writers, and getting up too late...and always a laughing deflection of having to discuss anything of substance.

So I guess, if that’s what you want in the leader of the free world - one liners - then knock yourself out.

First, let’s get something on the table: I have never in my life been MORE disgusted with a politician - not Nixon, not Clinton, not nobody - than I was tonight when I saw Mike Huckabee have the ASTOUNDING gall to stand up and say that the top two finisher ran a clean campaign and he was proud that he finished as he did “honorably”

I agree with you. I was stunned as he was saying this. I was waiting for him to say “psych” at the end of it. lol.

Thanks. I had to hit the backspace plenty of times, trying not to forget I'm a guest in Jim Robinson's house, and, in fact I had to re-read it a little while ago having become afraid I'd crossed the line. Not a pleasant evening in American politics. I'd like to pretend I don't remember when this Primary system became a Basketball Tournament, but I know all too well Entertainment Conquered Reality in our country a long time ago.

Perhaps if Huck han’t of used some shady tactics against Fred, Fred would not have had to defend his record.

You reap what you sow, Huck.

After all Huck, you have won ONLY one state. I don’t believe I would call that a roll.

Here is another Commandment that huckster and his crew have broken. Number Nine:

“Thou shalt not bear false witness”.

I also remembered these two little gems. huck may not be guilty of them all... that is certain... but for an Ordained man of GOD he certainly bucks the scriptures. I capitalized a few for reference.

“Proverbs 6:16-19 “These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yea, seven [are] an abomination unto him: A PROUD LOOK, A LYING TONGUE, and hands that shed innocent blood, AN HEART THAT DEVISETH WICKED IMAGINATIONS, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A FALSE WITNESS [that] SPEAKETH LIES, AND HE THAT SOWETH DISCORD AMONG BRETHREN"

Revelation 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, AND ALL LIARS, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
