COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Fred Thompson, trailing Mike Huckabee and John McCain in the polls, will continue his presidential bid even if he finishes third in today's South Carolina primary, his campaign said.
Thompson, who had talked of South Carolina as his last stand, appeared this afternoon at a gun show in a suburban Shriners' auditorium -- a natural fit given his strong support of the Second Amendment right to own firearms. Several patrons wore "Fred '08" stickers on their clothing; as Thompson swept into the packed hall he was greeted by a modest round of applause.
"Go, Fred!" one woman shouted.
"How we doin'?" Thompson asked, greeting passers-by as he walked along the narrow aisles displaying hunting scopes and high-tech shotguns. He shook hands, paused for autographs, and posed for photos snapped on cell phones.

Must be a paulbearer.
Fred never drew any line.
I wonder how many candidates have made campaign stops at guns shows. Does anyone know when the NRA normally endorses a candidate?
What if he finishes fourth?
Its over Fred. You weren’t serious to begin with! Pulled a Perot on alot of people!
“Must be a paulbearer.”
I’d like to see the IRS eliminated - not replaced with a more expensive sales tax.
I’d like to see the borders secured.
I support the RKBA, not like Bush who just filed on half of DC with the Supreme Court.
I want to see Government to be radically shrunk - not just grow slower.
I want to see the Department of Education shrunk and eliminated - not grown as we’ve seen under most other Republicans.
So yes, I am proud to be the bearer of Dr. Paul’s message.
You can keep voting for the other candidates, all Republicrats to one degree or another, and foolishly expect a different result.
Would he win in Tennessee?
We are screwed no matter who gets the nomination out of the 4 RINO's, but at least the other three have some redeeming qualities.
“He never said he was ever getting out.”
Ah, but that’s pissant’s strategy: post a thread that suggests it’s “news” that Fred, despite his inevitable withdrawal, will soldier on for one more state.
Apparently this is news to those that oppose Fred?
There’s only three players showing any signs of life down here so far...Rudy, Fred, and Rupaul.
All others are AWOL so far.
If that were true, you could provide a link.
If you can't provide a link, then you're simply lying.
Then why is McCain leading the FL polls?
Good deal. Glad to hear it. Just a few weeks ago he was running out of cash. Now... glad to hear it.
“He said he needed number one or strong two or he would get out.”
Source?? Why do you post this crap? He never said it, and you know it. I defy you to find the quote.
Whoop-de-dip. Somebody needs to tell the Fred08 people we have been voting for over a week!!! My county had a 30% turn out by TUESDAY!!!
Rudy is not my candidate but he deserves it in that he was the only guy down here before we started voting. SC is a head fake. No registration, small number of delegates.
“This is great news. Go Fred!”
I don’t understand how consistent losses add up to good news?
With Levin and Rush now endorsing him, he’s gotta like his chances better.

“If Fred cant win in SC, where can he win?”
Whoever wins in S Carolina, it will be with a smaller percentage than McCain lost with in 2000.
I think Fred can beat any of them one on one. But with 5 front runners it is hard to get his message out with the biased MSM. Wait until these other guys start to drop out and everyone will surge towards Fred.
Sound of crickets. He’s gone from this thread, because he got caught spreading lies - again.
