I was surprised to hear Rush Limbaugh the other day say that there was no 'Thoroughbred' Conservative in the 2008 Republican nomination Field for President. I was thinking to myself, What? Rep. Duncan Hunter is Conservative right down the line. From his web site: Hunter' Ratings

Exactly how Conservative can you get? Ok, so what's with Limbaugh? Simple, found this On the Hill article that says:

“He was shocked that the administration approved the deal,” said Rep. Jim Saxton (R-N.J.), a senior member of Hunter’s committee and a close friend. Saxton worked with Hunter to introduce legislation blocking the deal and revising the foreign-investment process to ensure national security.
“On the Dubai issue, he got all fired up,” a congressional source said. Hunter gathered information to prove that Dubai has not been trustworthy — despite repeated administration assertions that the UAE is a vital ally in the war on terrorism."
"It is not often that a guest on a TV news program has the boldness to put the interviewer’s political-activism past in the open, but Hunter wasn’t one to shy away. He made sure to point out, three times, that George Stephanopoulos, the host of ABC’s “This Week,” had worked for President Clinton, who supported the Dubai Ports deal."

Really. Hunter's campaign never left the motor pool, for a variety of reasons, and to blame his failure on Rush Limbaugh is the depths of infantile stupidity.
It often surprises me to see the number of freepers with personal problems who take them out on Rush instead of dealing with them. Makes one wonder.

The two ports (Balboa and Cristobal) being run by Hutchison Whampoa are under British management with Panamaian blue-collar workers.
U.S. companies have some of the other ports.
Also, a U.S. company runs the railroad.

Key word. Hunter is no longer really in the race, ie in the realistic nomination field. Although the CV is as you said, Hunter is no longer in the remaining field.

I would venture to say that Rush has total respect and support for Hunter -- as a conservative Republican.
But as the old saying goes, politics is the 'art of the possible' ... or something like that.
Rush could run campaign ads three hours a day on his radio show, and Duncan would not get nearly enough support to win the Primary much less the General.
The best conservative does NOT always make the best candidate.
On a side note, Duncan sent me six letters today, one for each time I donated to his campaign.
Seems he wants to apply for Federal matching funds, and by law those who donated by credit card have to sign a form saying they agree to matching funds, or something like that??
Anyway, I signed all six and sent them back to Duncan in one envelope.
Dodd and Biden dropped out. Hunter is in it to stay, and has made that quite clear.
Panama Canal
There are some rumours claiming that during the United States’ Clinton Administration, when the President and Vice President were under attack for taking money from Chinese funders, several conservative U.S. Congressmen and U.S. Senators tried to tie Hutchison Whampoa and its chairman, Li Ka-shing, into the scandal. Hutchison had successfully earned the rights to operate ports on both sides of the Panama Canal, and the coincidence of that event with the Chinese troubles rocking the White House was too good to ignore.
Despite the fact that Hutchison and its chairman had never given money to President Bill Clinton’s political effort, and despite the fact that Hutchison is a publicly traded company with no ties to the Chinese government, right-wing critics tried to make the case that Hutchison’s presence in Panama was an attempt by the People’s Liberation Army to gain control over the Panama Canal, and that the effort was facilitated by President Clinton as a political favor.
In October 1999, Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott have raised fears that China may be seeking control of the Panama Canal through Hutchison Whampoa Limited.
The final negotiaton and signature of the Panama Canal Treaties was done by President Jimmy Carter in September 1977, and provided that as from 12 p.m. on January 1, 2000, Panama would assume full control of canal operations and become primarily responsible for its defense.
Today, the Autoridad del Canal de Panamá (Panama Canal Authority) is responsible for the operation and management of the canal. Hutchison Whampoa operates ports in Panama, as it does in Mexico and other parts of the Americas.

If you believe a B rating from the NTU, in defense of our national security and the safety of our troops makes a candidate unfit for command, than I fear for our country more than I did when I first read your post.

I’ve been posting here longer than you. When we joined, it would not have been conceivable that the majority of freepers would support the less conservative candidate for the race. Nor would it be believed if I went back in time and told them that as a conservative supporting the most conservative candidate for the presidency, I would see threads where the anticonservatives are posting trash before the conservatives, and that the website is inundated with RINOs. Your action today is aligned with RINOs. Live, Learn, Do Not Repeat. If you’re proud of what you have done here on this thread, something is off with you. The fact that you hesitate to join a thread such as the one mentioned is because you are not proud of your posting record. As you would know by now, this is a conservative forum, not affiliated with the GOP.
Hunter with 2%, is better than Hunter with 1%. that is a positive movement for our guy. :o)
