Why Rush Limbaugh Doesn't Like Duncan Hunter
Spank That Donkey ^ | Staff

Posted on 01/19/2008 9:41:41 AM PST by pissant

I was surprised to hear Rush Limbaugh the other day say that there was no 'Thoroughbred' Conservative in the 2008 Republican nomination Field for President. I was thinking to myself, What? Rep. Duncan Hunter is Conservative right down the line. From his web site: Hunter' Ratings

National Rifle Association: A+

Americans for Better Immigration: A+

Eagle Forum: 100%

Christian Coalition: 100%

Family Research Council Action: 100%

Campaign for Working Families: 100%

Concerned Women for America: 100%

National Right to Life Committee: 100%

Federation for American Immigration Reform: 100%

National Federation of Independent Business: 100%

Gun Owners of America: A (Read GOA article here)

** GodVoters.org: A ** (the ONLY A they gave) (See their endorsement here)

American Conservative Union: 92%

Americans for Tax Reform: 88.5% (lifetime, most recent rating was 100%)

National Tax Limitation Committee: 88

National Taxpayers Union: B

ACLU: 7% (indicates very conservative)

NARAL: 0% (indicates a pro-life record)

Exactly how Conservative can you get? Ok, so what's with Limbaugh? Simple, found this On the Hill article that says:

"It is difficult to change Rep. Duncan Hunter’s mind. House leadership officials and the White House have found that out the hard way."

"When they wanted him to vote for a pending trade bill last year, Hunter (R-Calif.) refused — again and again. And when the Bush administration tried to convince the powerful Armed Services Committee on its controversial port security plan, Hunter refused to budge."

"Twisting Hunter’s arm is impossible, his close friends say."

The article continues:

"And Hunter, whom many call a protectionist, was instrumental in scuttling a deal that would have given the operations at six major U.S. ports to Dubai Ports World, a company owned by the United Arab Emirates."

“He was shocked that the administration approved the deal,” said Rep. Jim Saxton (R-N.J.), a senior member of Hunter’s committee and a close friend. Saxton worked with Hunter to introduce legislation blocking the deal and revising the foreign-investment process to ensure national security.

“On the Dubai issue, he got all fired up,” a congressional source said. Hunter gathered information to prove that Dubai has not been trustworthy — despite repeated administration assertions that the UAE is a vital ally in the war on terrorism."

"It is not often that a guest on a TV news program has the boldness to put the interviewer’s political-activism past in the open, but Hunter wasn’t one to shy away. He made sure to point out, three times, that George Stephanopoulos, the host of ABC’s “This Week,” had worked for President Clinton, who supported the Dubai Ports deal."

“I don’t think President Clinton, your old boss, knows the facts of the transshipment that take place through Dubai sending nuclear components to all parts of the world,” Hunter told Stephanopoulos, in one of the references to Clinton."

I remember Rush getting particularly getting bent out of shape on the issue:

Rush probably felt he could personally change every American's mind on the issue from behind the EIB Golden Microphone, but alas, the deal fell through. Is El Rushbo taking out his frustration on the actual 'Thoroughbred Conservative' Republican Candidate for POTUS in 2008?

Hey Rush, why don't you give your ego a break bud?

“Who Is Duncan Hunter? Is he a Congressman or something? Never heard of him.”

And there’s proof you shouldn’t be voting or even giving an opinion.

I’d prefer Mark Levin over Rush any day.

Uncommitted came in second in one of the Democrat races

The Prom Queen and King are still in the race together.

Rush is an unabashed globalist and Hunter is a nationalist. The two are ideologically incompatible.

Take heart, my boy, Ronaldus Magnus wasn't the Republican standard-bearer in '76, either. The extra bit of maturity did him and us all good. He got his eight years in eventually, capped by the Soviet Union implosion. That might not have been possible from '77-'84.

In upcoming elections will we see Duncan in "food fights" with El-Rushbo based on this perceived slight, or will Hunter truly let himself become all he can be, as did RWR?

Rush is a republican, not a conservative, like some of the posters on FR.

Wow, Rush Limbaugh is not a conservative. You heard it here first, folks!

His home state is Californica. The Hispanic invastion has made it solidly Democratic territory these days, except for ultra-RINOs like Ahnold. Frankly, I don't want my Republican candidate selected by Californica.

It sure is strange that so many people come out of the woodwork on a "conservative" forum to sarcastically bash the only Reagan conservative left in the race.

I like Duncan Hunter. I think Rush is concentrating on who can actually win. Again, Duncan Hunter is a stellar conservative.

“He’s a NOBODY!!! Nobody’s ever heard of him, nobody cares about him.”

That’s right all you Hunter Supporters! YOU are NOBODY! Wise up, let some bozo on an internet forum insult you into voting for his favorite Rino! YOU are NOBODY and don’t forget it!

You have NO right to vote for a good candidate, what’s the matter with ya?

INSULT POLITICS, THE MAINSTAY OF THE KENNEDY WING OF THE GOP

Rush has never indicated any problem with Duncan Hunter. Duncan has just not gotten high enough for him to comment on. Dubai has nothing to do with it, Duncan is actually closer to Rush than any other candidate. Rush wasn't that concerned with the Dubai issue, what he was concerned about was the blind demagoguery going on when it came to light. The Dems got to show what great patriots they were by getting all pumped up over the issue, and then Republicans joined in.

I was against the Dubai deal, too, but the hypocrisy by Dems was noticeable. They would sell us out in a heartbeat, as shown in China in the 90s, the Soviet Union in the 80s, and in Iran right now.

“Which is why he can still get 30% of the Republican vote, no matter whether nominated or not.”

Then the next logical question becomes: Why didn’t he get that 30 percent in polls and primaries to date?

Drinking Coffee"I was surprised to hear Rush Limbaugh the other day say that there was no 'Thoroughbred' Conservative in the 2008 Republican nomination Field for President."

Maybe he meant there was no thoroughbred conservative in the race.  With 'in the race' being the pivotal point instead of 'thoroughbred.'  No doubt Hunter is the most thoroughbred conservative person in America, not just in the nomination field.

They want Hunter out before the California or any primaries. If their candidate has any competition they know he can’t win.

Anyone willing to let 2 NE states pick our candidate is out of their mind.

Rush has always made a point that it is not his job to prop up a candidate. At the beginning of the race, Huckabee (who I have no use for) and Duncan Hunter (who I will pull the lever for, because he is the most conservative candidate) started at 1%. Huckabee is at double digits and Hunter is still at 1%. Blame it on Rush?

one of the reasons this "man of the people" is being ignored by the GOP admin.

As well as the media. If it is good for America, it is bad for the enemedia! It may be time to add the RNC to DNC/CNN/FOX/MSNBC/ABC/CBS/NBC.

He’s some lame-ass congressman from California who woke up one day and decided to run for president.

Running for president takes years of organizational buildup.. Hunter did none of this. He’s just embarrassing himself anymore.

I’d be a little less provacative in my description but in essence your general thought is valid. Hunter in his some 28 years of sucking at the gov’t teat didn’t expand himself beyond his CD and House committee such that he became a known entitey across the national scene. Had he rasied his level of recognition in the national arena like say Newt or DeLay he may have been a player this time around. But as he stands today he’s a wannabe with no following or name recognition...

Too bad because he does have strong conservative credentials.
