Why Rush Limbaugh Doesn't Like Duncan Hunter
Spank That Donkey ^ | Staff

Posted on 01/19/2008 9:41:41 AM PST by pissant

I was surprised to hear Rush Limbaugh the other day say that there was no 'Thoroughbred' Conservative in the 2008 Republican nomination Field for President. I was thinking to myself, What? Rep. Duncan Hunter is Conservative right down the line. From his web site: Hunter' Ratings

National Rifle Association: A+

Americans for Better Immigration: A+

Eagle Forum: 100%

Christian Coalition: 100%

Family Research Council Action: 100%

Campaign for Working Families: 100%

Concerned Women for America: 100%

National Right to Life Committee: 100%

Federation for American Immigration Reform: 100%

National Federation of Independent Business: 100%

Gun Owners of America: A (Read GOA article here)

** GodVoters.org: A ** (the ONLY A they gave) (See their endorsement here)

American Conservative Union: 92%

Americans for Tax Reform: 88.5% (lifetime, most recent rating was 100%)

National Tax Limitation Committee: 88

National Taxpayers Union: B

ACLU: 7% (indicates very conservative)

NARAL: 0% (indicates a pro-life record)

Exactly how Conservative can you get? Ok, so what's with Limbaugh? Simple, found this On the Hill article that says:

"It is difficult to change Rep. Duncan Hunter’s mind. House leadership officials and the White House have found that out the hard way."

"When they wanted him to vote for a pending trade bill last year, Hunter (R-Calif.) refused — again and again. And when the Bush administration tried to convince the powerful Armed Services Committee on its controversial port security plan, Hunter refused to budge."

"Twisting Hunter’s arm is impossible, his close friends say."

The article continues:

"And Hunter, whom many call a protectionist, was instrumental in scuttling a deal that would have given the operations at six major U.S. ports to Dubai Ports World, a company owned by the United Arab Emirates."

“He was shocked that the administration approved the deal,” said Rep. Jim Saxton (R-N.J.), a senior member of Hunter’s committee and a close friend. Saxton worked with Hunter to introduce legislation blocking the deal and revising the foreign-investment process to ensure national security.

“On the Dubai issue, he got all fired up,” a congressional source said. Hunter gathered information to prove that Dubai has not been trustworthy — despite repeated administration assertions that the UAE is a vital ally in the war on terrorism."

"It is not often that a guest on a TV news program has the boldness to put the interviewer’s political-activism past in the open, but Hunter wasn’t one to shy away. He made sure to point out, three times, that George Stephanopoulos, the host of ABC’s “This Week,” had worked for President Clinton, who supported the Dubai Ports deal."

“I don’t think President Clinton, your old boss, knows the facts of the transshipment that take place through Dubai sending nuclear components to all parts of the world,” Hunter told Stephanopoulos, in one of the references to Clinton."

I remember Rush getting particularly getting bent out of shape on the issue:

Rush probably felt he could personally change every American's mind on the issue from behind the EIB Golden Microphone, but alas, the deal fell through. Is El Rushbo taking out his frustration on the actual 'Thoroughbred Conservative' Republican Candidate for POTUS in 2008?

Hey Rush, why don't you give your ego a break bud?

Well, okay, I guess there may be a few... but I’m not sure why anyone would hate Duncan Hunter.

That’s totally weird.

I think there’s enough hate on Free Republic to go around for everyone!

“Whoever these people are who disrespect a good man, they are not doing their candidate of choice any favors.”

Most of them don’t have a candidate of ‘choice’, any 3 of the liberal media pick, McCAin, Huck, Ron Paul would suit most of them. In other words, anyone from the KENNEDY WING OF THE GOP.

You're not alone.

I apologize for not being clearer with my explanation but I was referring to Conservatism, not Fred Thompson.

There is no ‘conspiracy’. Just common practice by the media.

It's understandable and not weird if you're not a Conservative.

I love Rush, but I haven’t seen him influence the outcome of an election yet. That’s why I don’t think it really matters who he endorses or does not endorse. His diatribes against Hucklebee don’t seem to be hurting him any. I would almost rather Rush not endorse my candidate.

DO you believe that a media conspiracy is preventing Hunter from doing better in the primaries?

IMO, not a conspiracy, but a common core dislike of a real, true conservative who wouldn't be overly friendly to their social games.

Have you ever seen/heard DUNCAN HUNTER speak other than at the phony debate soundbite ordeals?

However, since he’s now completely irrelevant it doesn’t matter what I think about him.
***That’s what I don’t get. I thought Tancredo, Brownback, and T Thompson were completely irrelevant, and I never logged onto any of their threads (as far as I know). Yet we see day after day the same sort of comment like this from Freepers. Methinks the lady doth protest too much.

Once Thompson drops out, Hunter will be the only conservative in the race. Thompson has a 70.1% chance of dropping out in January and an 86.2% chance of dropping in February per Intrade. The beauty of those numbers is that if you really do disagree with them, you can short them and make money if you’re right.

DROPOUT.JAN08.(F)THOMPSON
Fred Thompson to drop out of 2008 Presidential race on/before 31 Jan 2008 M Trade 72.0 84.9 70.1 289 0

DROPOUT.FEB08.(F)THOMPSON
Fred Thompson to drop out of 2008 Presidential race on/before 29 Feb 2008 M Trade 60.0 94.0 86.2 15 0

He’s not as underhanded as most candidates either.

Truth! Although, I would say he is not underhanded, but the other candidates are

I was only replying to your comment:

The tired old concept of settling for the lesser of two evils by holding one's nose only begets more evil.

Sorry, I took that to mean that your didn't believe in settling for the lesser of two evils in any contest.

I wasn't commenting on Thompson.

I don’t believe I ever ONCE got onto a Brownback, Tancredo nor T Thompson thread because they truly had no chance. The fact that you go out of your way to try to push down a conservative candidate on this conservative website says a lot about the state of conservatism today. When Mr. Awesome Poll Results won the governatorship of Kahleeforneeya, did conservatism win? NO. Did republicanism win? I don’t care. This is a conservative website, not a GOP website. Peddle your republicanism garbage elsewhere, like GOP.com; your behavior proves that you are not a conservative.

In general Rush doesn’t get it on the Muslim threats including the Dubai thang and oil. OTOH Hunter didn’t get it on 1999 when he voted for the bombing of Serbia supporting clintoon’s ridiculously immoral actions regarding Kosovo.

Rush is lovable..in so many ways ways, not all..dittoes Hunter.

Thank you for this most excellent post. You wrap the situation up in a small, neat package.

DH represents a real threat to the corporatists due to his two strongest issues- illegal immigration and fair trade, both of which hit the corporatists in the wallet.
Not only is the GOP in danger, this country is in peril.
