N.J. sod farm levels playing field for NFC championship N.Y. Giants to be on 'home turf' when they face Green Bay
NEWARK - The Green Bay Packers have the home field advantage in tomorrow's NFC championship game, but the famous frozen tundra of Lambeau Field was grown in the New York Giants' backyard in New Jersey.
Tuckahoe Turf Farms, a sod grower located between Philadelphia and Atlantic City, supplies grass for some of the country's most well-known sports venues, including Lambeau Field and Fenway Park.
James Betts, the grandson of the company's founder, said he'll be watching the game to keep an eye on "his" grass, which was snow covered for last week's game against the Seattle Seahawks.
"At first, it was a really big deal, but after a while you kind of just get used to it," he said.

Right now the whole state of Wisconsin is in under an "It's Freaking Cold" alert with a wind chill of "My Thermometer Doesn't Go That Low!"
But compared to the Ice Bowl is pretty balmy right now.
I think tomorrow's game will come down to the team that freezes up less.
You’ll probably “die hard” if your neighbors find out.
Do you know why the wind always blows in Northwest Wisconsin? Because the Vicqueens suck!
Does this mean there’s a piece of Jimmy Hoffa in the Lambeau turf?
It's the last rest stop on the Turnpike (or the first, I guess), so it gets busy. Lots of people coming and going.
Here are my Packer bona fides: My great grandfather moved to da UP from Appleton, WI; My dad had me baptized the day of Super Bowl I (Packers over the Chiefs); and he first brought me to Lambeau at Age 2. Despite never living in Wisconsin, I was genetically engineered to be a Packer Backer. ;-)
LOL! Good on your dad!
“You know what a bubbler is.”
I do not. Would you please describe?
A man goes to the Minnesota Vikings ticket office and inquires about purchasing playoff tickets. The ticket teller replies that there aren’t any tickets for sale because the Vikings did not make the playoffs.
The following day the same man goes to the Minnesota Vikings ticket office and inquires about purchasing Vikings playoff tickets. The ticket teller politely replies that there aren’t any tickets for sale because the Vikings did not make the playoffs.
This goes on for an entire week. The man goes to the Vikings ticket office inquiring about playoff tickets and the teller says none are for sale because the Vikings did not make the playoffs.
Another week of this goes by and the man still is asking the ticket teller about Vikings playoff tickets. Finally the ticket teller says in a loud voice, “I’VE TOLD YOU FOR THE LAST 2 WEEKS THERE ARE NO TICKETS AVAILABLE BECAUSE THE VIKINGS DID NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!!!”
Smirking, the man replied, I know. I drive all the way from Green Bay just to hear you say that!
I live just around the corner from Lambeau Field here. It’s very cold. Lots of cars with Packers flags on them.
Of course the Giants don't have a chance tomorrow especially once I put on my lucky A J Hawk jersey.
I was just watching the wheather channel and they said the temp at 6:30 tomorrow will be 3 degrees.
Same people they play every year this weekend! Oh well, one of these years :-(
ESPN is reporting that the Giants have been practicing yesterday and today by putting their balls in a freezer.
OK....good luck with that.
You’d better start praying, Giants fans. Start with 10 “Hail Favres” and go from there. :)
Our Favre,
Who art in Lambeau,
Hallowed be thine arm.
The bowl will come,
It will be won.
In Phoenix as it was in New Orleans.
And give us this Sunday,
Our weekly win.
And give us many touchdown passes.
But do not let others pass against us.
Lead us not into frustration,
But deliver us to the valley of the sun.
For thine is the MVP, the best of the NFC,
and the glory of the Cheeseheads,
now and forever. AMEN!
At 8:30 EST tonight the NFL Network will show the first game from week 2 of the Packers-Giants game.
That is HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!
I love it!!!!
