COLUMBIA, S.C. -- There was an ice storm in South Carolina this morning, but it was even colder inside a Staples store where a Mitt Romney press conference suddenly went sour.
Romney was in the middle of answering a routine question when he said something that caused Associated Press reporter Glen Johnson to lose his temper.
I dont have lobbyists running my campaign, Romney said. I dont have lobbyists that are tied to my
Thats not true, governor! Johnson suddenly interjected. That is not true. Ron Kaufman is a lobbyist.
Kaufman is a well-known lobbyist, former adviser to President H.W. Bush and Romney campaign adviser who is often seen by the governors side while on the road.

Lobbyists are at the very least tied to his campaign. That is indisputable. Whether his senior advisers 'run' his campaign is a matter of semantics. But Romney has been known to parse words before, famously arguing that it depends on the meaning of the word "saw" when he said he "saw" his father march with MLK.
Romney should just be glad it wasn’t NBC’s David Gregory drilling him. He is ruthlessly rude.
If that fat little jerk of a reporter had kept his mouth shut we might know what Romney was trying to say, but we don’t.
The word saw does not always mean one literally saw something with his own eyes. Surely you understand that.
Look, the bottom line is many in the news media are out to eliminate Romney from this race, no matter what it takes.
If Romney somehow manages to get the nomination, you can bet he will win in November, and many people on the left know it, even if some on the right apparently don’t.
Gregory is rude, but never to liberals.
I’ll take that bet, that he is on the bus as usual.
(I heard they ‘made nice’ last night, after this took place)
‘Gregory is rude, but never to liberals.’
Yep, never be rude to fellow club members....
