A drill instructor in the National Guard has been convicted in a Wisconsin federal court of illegally transferring a machine gun after a rifle he loaned to a student malfunctioned, setting off three shots before jamming.

The verdict of guilty on one count in the case against David Olofson was confirmed yesterday by the clerk's office in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

That means now that anyone whose weapon malfunctions is subject to charges of having or handling a banned gun, according to an expert witness who reports that the particular problem is a well-known malfunction and was even the subject of a recall from the manufacturer.

I bought a Savage 22 semi auto at a pawn shop once. I tried to fire it and it fired full auto for about three or four rounds before jamming. Should I turn myself in?

This has always been a fear of Class-III owners.
Looks like it’s finally coming true.

"a rifle he loaned to a student malfunctioned"

LOL! The rifle had a 3 posiiton selector switch. Olofson told the "student" not to use that position, because 3 rnds might go off. When the feds tested it, position 3 was full auto, and three 20 rnd mags were emptied full auto.

Yay my notoriously slam firing SKS is now a machine gun. Guess I can sell it for $10,000 now instead of $125.

I had a Mossberg .22 that would dump a full 7 round magazine if not cleaned often enough. It didn’t take long for it to build up enough powder fouling to block the firing pin forward, and that is all it takes.

Got any links for that info?

Yes! And I would do so immediately. I have some handcuffs that you can borrow.

Got to say that any one that VOLUNTEERS to serve these mindless SOB’s that have no problem charging a soldier with murder because he didn’t say please, and garbage like this, is truly something and deserves our respect. I don’t think I could do it and I find it hard to recommend people to enlist.
Not because of the ‘fear’ factor just because of all the BS that has to be sorted through.

That is not what it sounds like from the article. They mention the ATF switching to soft primers to get it to slam fire.

More proof that the law is not what is written but what the judge says. We are headed toward anarchy.

I was at a USPSA match where the disconnecter on one of the competitor’s 1911’s broke lighting off 9 rounds.

He wasn’t quite sure what happened, but he was beginning to reload when the RSO grabbed him and stopped the stage.

Quite exciting, seeing a .45 1911-A1 go full auto.
