WASHINGTON A high school track star has been disqualified from a meet because officials said the custom-made outfit she wears to conform to her Muslim faith violated competition rules.
Juashaunna Kelly, a senior at the District of Columbia's Theodore Roosevelt High School, has the fastest mile and two-mile times of any girls' runner in the city this winter. She was disqualified from Saturday's Montgomery Invitational indoor track and field meet.
Kelly was wearing the same uniform she has worn for the past three seasons while running for Theodore Roosevelt's cross-country and track teams. The custom-made, one-piece blue and orange unitard covers her head, arms, torso and legs. Over the unitard, she wears the same orange and blue T-shirt and shorts as her teammates.
The outfit allows her to compete while adhering to her Muslim faith, which forbids displaying any skin other than her face and hands.

Juashaunna. Sounds muzzie to me.
What is the point of a uniform?
Oh, yeah.
This one's gonna be a classic.
I can just tell.
Gotta see a picture of the uniform, was she tripping on the veil?
“Charlie Don’t Surf”
Different day but same old cry me a river, Muslim deprived media.
This sort of idiocy just radicalizes young Muslims. This girl is obviously not interested being any sort of extremist, given that she’s competing on a track team in public while wearing an outfit that would earn her an honor killing in extremist Muslim circles. Why smack her down? Why give her reasons to want to turn away from us?
I've heard so much about their atrocities, this young lady dressed this way looks kind of sinister, IMHO.
You know what this remind me of remember that swim suit Wonder woman change into season 3 of Wonder Woman REMEMBER remind me that LOL!
I don’t see a problem with it.
If anything it’s more of a handicap.
i wonder what people like you would say if a runner was DQ'd for wearing a necklace with a cross on it that didn't conform to uniform standards.
If she can’t conform to the uniform rules in that game then it may not be the game for her. I am not going to cry them a river with the way the women are treated and they just take it. She was given options but she refused to accept the options because she probably just wants to cause a stink. Christians gets held to the separation of church and state all the time then so should the Muslims.
It does not harm the school or any of the other competitors to accommodate her religious beliefs.
I truly don’t understand the problem.
Athletes have the choice of their sport. If she was going to have to make concessions to be part of a TEAM, she should have considered that before she joined.
I see a lawsuit in the works.
Team sports are just that - everyone wears the required
uniform.
Next year - modern dance.
Yeah, I’m with you. It does them no harm, the suit doesn’t provide a competitive advantage, and it lets her compete while keeping faith with her (false) religion. As I said on the duplicate thread, as long as they made the same allowance for other religions (say, a Jewish runner wearing a yarmulke) then she should be able to wear the suit, within reason.
