Ex-Lawmaker Charged in Terror Conspiracy
Jan 16 02:42 PM US/Eastern By LARA JAKES JORDAN Associated Press Writer 19 Comments
WASHINGTON (AP) - A former congressman and delegate to the United Nations was indicted Wednesday as part of a terrorist fundraising ring that allegedly sent more than $130,000 to an al-Qaida and Taliban supporter who has threatened U.S. and international troops in Afghanistan.
The former Republican congressman from Michigan, Mark Deli Siljander, was charged with money laundering, conspiracy and obstructing justice for allegedly lying about lobbying senators on behalf of an Islamic charity that authorities said was secretly sending funds to terrorists.
Pretty close.
He won a special election to fill the remainder of David Stockman’s term. Stockman was picked to be Reagan’s head of OMB.
Siljander was an evangelical and tended to be outspoken - which put him at odds with the GOP establishment in that area.
In ‘86, he was challenged by Fred Upton in the GOP primary. Upton’s family was linked to Whirlpool. Upton decisively beat him and has been in the seat ever since.
Since I've admitted to, back in the day, voting for the guy... I guess my reputation (such as it may have been) is now tarnished beyond repair. Forever to be associated with an accused terrorist supporter which will now be used against me, here, whenever it may be convenient to do so. Heaven help me if he's actually convicted.
I'll attempt to take some solace in that at least he hasn't used me as a reference for his business and I never appointed him to any UN position, although, those things likely never would have happened if I wasn't such an idiot back then so I guess, in the end, those things are my fault too.
:-(
Another Crook from Crook County. Big surprise. Most Republicans in Crook County are emasculated at an early age by the prevailing Daley thinking-schools, churches, politicians, media, etc. are all subverted by it. I’m sure a few here escaped, but very few.
I was pleasantly surprised when I heard this on the radio earlier. I didn’t hear a party so assumed it was Democrat, turns out it was Republican. Strange, not the way things usually work.
I’m not on my regular computer tonight, so I can’t look it up for you, but the perp in question when a congressman worked on anti abortion/right to life bill with Hunter and ??? (another conserv. congressman, can’t remember, I will get it tomorrow. ) The perp was a very respected pro life guy at that time, in the 80’s. That’s the only association that I found. George Bush is pro life as well. Are you saying you have any other association for
Hunter?
Now, if you’re trying to dream up some grand conspiracy that Hunter is soft on Islamists, just keep digging.
Did you notice the several Muslim Groups websites Ron Paul for President and the Muslim newspapers in Michigan that endorsed him??
True, and now I would like to see ALL the liberals who have done the same thing, indicted.
I doubt it. I think it was the color of the papers they held in front of his nose (white and green piles of paper with Ben Franklin's portrait everywhere). That color tends to speak loudly across all kinds of cultural divides. Or at least to the right kind of person it does.
Alright will do!
Stealth convert?
Hang down you hear head, Tom Michigander;
Hang down your head, and cry!
Hang down your head, Tom Michigander;
Poor FReeper, you're about to die!
Before we hang you from that white oak tree, do you have any accomplices you would like to implicate? The more names you name, the less likely we'll use a choker rather than breaker knot on the rope.
One of the 5 pillars of islam the one relating to hajj, the pilgrimage to makkah is laughable, as mohammadan apartheid dictates non-muslims may not even set foot there.
As for the shahaddah, it affirms that one belief mohammad is the messenger of the one God. Help me out here, but what Christian believes the murdering Arab thief, rapist, genocidal, warmongering deceiver is the latest messenger of God?
Yes, I'm being hard here, not as a personal attack, but to drive home a point.... as Christians so not see eyes to eye with this whitewash, neither will RoP true believers see this as some sort of bridge between cultures or religion. The ulema has final say, after all, and there's always the fun and games the salafi "true believers" will have with bidahris and the belief in the prophecy of 72 devient sects that have strayed from islam.
My personal take (feel free to disagree) from living is islmic nations, among both feral koranimals and those unlucky enough to be simply claimed by the "RoP" cult due to lottery of birth is not to look into their scripture for common ground, but to take them away from it, and ultimately deal with them as one party with principles and integrity to another.
What kind of evangelical donates money to Al Qaeda?
An ex-evangelical.
Toting his new book--A Deadly Misunderstanding: A Congressman's Quest to Bridge the Muslim-Christian Divide, Siljander explained how, according to his studies, the two religions aren't so different after all.
Staggering.
I don’t think it’s Michigan at all in this case, but a Cook County influence. St. Joseph County is like a far out suburb and vacation area for Chicago’s influential class including politicians. Chicago media dominates St. Joseph County. One thing I’ve noticed, is that these people think they can solve all the world’s problems by diplomacy and free trade. A slippery slope from idealism into what is more like bribery rather than supporting terrorism I would suspect.
Is there any problem with that?!?
