Fred Thompson Goes After Mike Huckabee… Again Michael van der Galien
Fred Thompson’s campaign continues to attack, primarily, Governor Mike Huckabee. I published a post yesterday with a video of Thompson criticizing the Huckasaint, but today there’s a brand new attack: Team Thompson published a statement after Romney’s victory in which they criticize their main opponent in South Carolina in very clear terms.
“Mike Huckabee’s campaign to be John McCain’s Vice President has hit a snag. He has gone from the mid-thirties in Iowa to 11% in New Hampshire and now about 15% in Michigan,” Campaign Manager Bill Lacy said.
As if that’s not enough, Lacy went on to say that “[o]n higher taxes and looser immigration, Huckabee has been done his best these past few weeks to mimic McCain. But this is nothing new. In fact, while John McCain was leading the Senate charge to grant amnesty for illegal immigrants, Mike Huckabee was one of the loudest cheerleaders.”
And there’s more! “And at the same time McCain was voting against the Bush tax cuts, Huckabee was in Arkansas increasing taxes some 21 times,” Lacy sneered.
Of course Thompson’s campaign also lashed out to Romney (and, as you can see above, at McCain), but it’s obvious that the main target of the Thompson campaign is the former Governor of Arkansas. This make sense: Huckabee was leading in South Carolina polls only a few days ago (he has dropped significantly ever since), and Huckabee’s supporters should be open to supporting Thompson. To a degree, they fight for the same voters… but only to a degree. Thompson’s no Christianist. Instead, he’s a true American conservative. Romney lost this battle with Huckabee, to a degree at least, because it was easy for Huckasaint to make Romney look like a flip-flopper. But he can’t do the same thing with Thompson.

Let me know if you'd like to be on The Daily FRead ping list.
Bump
May I be the first (today) to predict that Fred wins South Carolina with at least 32% of the vote? If McCain has lost that air of inevitability, he and Huckabee may both be in free fall today.
Video: Fred Thompson on Hannity & Colmes, 01.15.08 By Sean Hackbarth in Video
Fred was smoking. Hannity barely could get a word in on his own show.
UPDATE: Daniel Scouler spotted the quote of the segment, no, make that the entire show:
“Remind me never to debate you.”

Both media creations. Live by the media, die by the media.
See definition of Velocity at the bottom of the re-post. There has been a persistent decline in web traffic at prominent Republican web forums for the last several years. However, FreeRepublic.com is still number one in this group. - TAB
Darn, I hate that I missed that. I wasn't familiar enough with the area and showed up to his walk through York just as it was winding down. I was at the event in Rock Hill, and it was great. The crowd had to be well over 200, and my understanding is that people had to turn away for lack of parking.
Ohhhhhh...ok! :)
Whooo Hooo! Glad to hear you got to see Fred! I read somewhere else the crowd for Fred would have been larger in one venue (may be the same one) if there was more parking.
