Emmy and Golden Globe winning actor Michael Moriarty recently endorsed fellow Law & Order star Fred Thompson for President of the United States.
During a telephone conversation with this writer, Moriarty said:
"Whoever does occupy the White House will not overturn Roe v. Wade, nor will he or she put the dictatorial Supreme Court in its place.
"However, I will personally vote for Mr. Fred Thompson and help his campaign as best I can, but I don't believe his entrance into this campaign ever carried enough pro-life commitment to do the job that has to be done. In addition, since the Republican Party has been so corrupted by the Nixon/Kissinger years, such corruption is too profound for one Republican as President to overcome.
"Contained in the human rights paragraph of the Declaration of Independence, the one beginning 'We hold these truths to be self-evident,' are the very essential ingredients to the meaning of America. Anything that veers or attempts to deny the self-evident truths contained therein is to my mind un-American. Therefore the Clinton Democrats, better known as Progressives, and the Giuliani Republicans, Progressives incognito, both have, to my mind, become profoundly disloyal to the meaning of their own birthplace.
"As a Declarationist, I declare unequivocally that all men are created equal. They are not gestated as possible candidates for abortion. They are no more eligible for abortion than African Americans are automatically eligible for slavery.
"The fundamental rights contained in that human rights paragraph are 'inalienable.' Nothing a Progressive Clintonite can say or do will ever re-write the human rights paragraph of the Declaration of Independence. No dance that Rudolph Giuliani may want to perform around his 'strict constructionist' alibi for not really being pro-abortion, none of his high stepping can re-write his proven record as a pro-abortionist."
Moriarty starred as Executive Assistant District Attorney Ben Stone on the NBC hit Law & Order from 1990 through 1994. He also starred in the landmark miniseries Holocaust and several acclaimed theatrical releases.

Moriarty did a nice job in the pilot episode of ‘The 4400’ as Orson Bailey.
My sentence made perfect sense in context. I'll type slowly:
You suggested my personal life wasn't perfect, as if that were the issue with Moriarty. In fact, the issue is that Moriarty was arrested for hitting a woman.

*I*--DW--am not going to be associated with Fred Thompson by people who'd love nothing more than to claim he's--Fred's--being backed by someone who's abused a woman--Moriarty.
A complex sentence, sure. But perfectly acceptable grammatically, and perfectly understandable to anyone with eighth-grade-level reading comprehension. Unless you're trying to dodge the issue.

I really have no idea what has or hasn't happened in Moriarty's private life. Nor do I care.

P.S. : Moriarty's arrest is fact, a matter of law. You can claim to be above it all, but you're missing the entire point, which is that this is an endorsement from a man with a record of hitting a woman.
Oh, what's the use? You aren't interested in gossip, and yet you are posting on a thread from a Hollywood figure. Then you engage me in a silly discussion and backtrack when you don't like how it's going.
If a person who hit a woman and was arrested for it endorsed a candidate you don't like I have a feeling you'd suddenly find it very important.

OH, I see--you're one of those folks who think being arrested for hitting a woman is no big deal if he wasn't convicted.

Moriarty, who is in treatment for alcohol addiction, was charged with assault after his common-law wife said he slapped her during an argument in a restaurant.
The court placed the actor on a 12-month, $1,000 peace bond. It stayed the charge on the conditions that Moriarty stay out of trouble and stay away from the complainant, Margaret Brychka, while he's drinking alcohol. Brychka says she's happy the actor is getting treatment, and that she hopes someday to resume the relationship.
This isn't the first time Moriarty has been in trouble with the law since his move to Canada in 1996. In 1997, he was arrested by Halifax police after a bar fight. He then allegedly uttered a racial slur to a black officer who was called to the scene.
His troubles with alcohol and questions about his mental health have been the subject of many print and television interviews since his departure from the hit TV show Law and Order in 1994. Moriarty portrayed Assistant District Attorney Ben Stone.

It wasn’t necessary for you to go dig up some dirt on Moriarty. Why not keep it to yourself since the info makes no difference to the issue at hand? Holier-than-thou attitudes always put people off.
I believe Michael Moriarty, a really good actor, had problems with alcohol. Good people can have problems. He’s dealt with his problem like a good person does. In addition, he is a conservative who stood up and tried to make a difference. He’s written several conservative pieces over the years. I’d accept his endorsement gladly.
Talk about inflation!
