Pistol for police marketed to the public
City leaders criticize the modified version of a gun originally made for an elite unit of the Los Angeles Police Department that has a history of fatal shootings.

To the dismay of some city leaders, a gun company is marketing a line of high-end pistols named for the LAPD's Special Investigation Section, an elite group of plainclothes detectives with a history of fatally shooting suspects.
The guns for the undercover unit were created at the request of the Los Angeles Police Department. Kimber, a Yonkers, N.Y.-based gun maker, is marketing a slightly modified version to the public, touting the weapons as the "hot new SIS pistols" on the company's website.
For each of the more than $1,000 guns sold, Kimber says it will donate $15 to the nonprofit Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation, which provides financial support to officers and their families in times of death, injury or illness.
But news that a weapon is being marketed with an "SIS" serration -- a clear reference to the LAPD -- was met with criticism from city and civil rights leaders.
"It is very disturbing," said Councilman Jack Weiss. "If any member of the public is shot with one of these guns or, heaven forbid, a cop is shot with one these guns, what would be the explanation?"
LAPD officials said the department does not endorse the gun but has no control over how the manufacturer markets the weapon.
Regarding questions about the weapons marketed to the public, Police Chief William J. Bratton dismissed the topic as a "nonissue," calling it "foolish."

What the.. ?
HUH ?
I’m just going to pretend I didn’t even read this, gawd...
no way man, that could be called an assault weapon... you could easily make the stock foldable and the flash suppressor/muzzle brake? that’s a big no no !
I trained with the Kimber Arms LAPD SWAT version built on a tight 1911 frame.”
Does that make it basically a 1911?
Like guns have special magical powers, in a society that officially does not believe in magic.
If a gun is used in a crime, it is ritually killed, when the perp walks in a few years.
So this design is “implicated” in numerous killings, when the people holding the magical guns are those who walk deliberately into very dangerous situations. Some evil force has permeated the very mainspring of this gun, and if civilians get them, they too will be forced to kill.
I think we need an official gun exorcism ceremony to make the antis feel better about these supernatural emanations from machined steel.
I don't dispute the quality of Kimbers pistols. I've got one or two of them in my own harem, but it does seem silly sometimes how gun companies sell guns like they are cars anymore.
I personally value skill more than designer guns or all the gadgets and lingerie people buy for them. I'd rather be someone who is genuinely skilled with a Ruger P90 than some poseur with a Wilson Combat Super Grade. I've seen plenty of both.
Pretty much so in the design end, however it is much tighter in the construction and a few mods that make it more user friendly. For instance the grip safety and Its extended base enabled you to rest the thumb of your shooting hand on top of the manual safety lever otherwise you might inadvertently apply the slim speed safety during firing. The construction of the weapon is slightly different than the basic 1911 .45 but I found the functionality better and it was more accurate and practical than the original design.
What’s good for the goose is NOT good for the gander
And she needs her tuition money back from law school.
Along with debarment for gross ignorance of the law.
Well said, I agree with you.
I know you can make a 1911 tight and very accurate with the right aftermarket parts, but I guess at the price of a genuine 1911 and the cost of converting it it would be easier to buy the Kimber.
What do you think of Desert Eagle? .45 .40
Depends on whether they needed shooting. But assuming they did not, I guess you'd prefer they would be shot with a stolen WW-I era, but functionally the same, version firing the exact same ammunition?
Or is it that the leftists are TOO wise and remember that phrase in the Declaration of Independence about the “right” of the people to abolish a government which abuses their basic human rights?
Considering where government is going in America, I think it the latter.
A safe gun will not have a history of fatal shootings.
I bought my kid one of those fer Christmas. It fires a 1/2" diameter slug that's more than 2 1/2 inches long!
Oh, and the coolest part of all: it's bright yellow and has the name "NERF" emblazoned on both sides.
We are not supposed to have same thing. Perfect communist state of mind
