Twins who were separated at birth have married each other, unaware that they were brother and sister.
Each had been adopted by a different family, with neither being told they had a twin.
A High Court judge annulled the marriage after the couple discovered they were siblings, the House of Lords has been told.
The judge ruled that the marriage had never validly existed.
The couple's identities, along with details of how they met and fell in love, remain a closely-guarded secret.
But the cross-bench peer Lord Alton, who told the Lords the case had been revealed to him by the judge involved, said the pair had felt an "inevitable attraction".
He raised the case to illustrate the need for adopted children to be given full access to their birth records during a debate on the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill last month.

Oh that’s just wrong to do to these people! They should have been told they had a twin! No wonder they grew close. Soul mates indeed.
So...that would make them half-Arkansasans?
This is why we might have to bring back mandatory blood tests before getting a marriage license, so you make sure their dna isn’t too similar.
And everybody can spae me the stuff about infertile couples;sperm donation from an anonymous source doesn't magically become sperm from the woman's partner.
They were just trying to keep it in the family....

Yeah, but in Arkansas you just practice with your sister. When it’s time to get married, you find a cousin.
It’s not just Arkansas. See Thomas Mann’s decadent short story, “The Blood of the Walsungs.”
At this point, it probably would have been better not to know.
“them half-Arkansasans”
They didn’t go to a family reunion looking for a date.
I remember my Mom telling the hard “facts-of-life” that I couldn’t marry my cousin when I was 11. There are natural laws that prevent this coupling in all societies. I think that these people have learned a lesson the hard, hard way about learning the most about the person you are marrying before you marry. Ask and ask again and your life depends on the answers,
Both being adopted, having the same birth date, and looking alike may have thrown up some flags.
...especially in Hollywood where everyone is related. I swear, one day someone out there will end up marrying/producing offspring by his/her own parent.
The good news is that you have a twin sister!
The bad news is that you may want to stop having sex with your wife."
The story says they already got married.

One of my granddaughter’s friends didn’t know who her father was and when they moved back to Mom’s old hometown my DIL encouraged Mom to tell her the truth about her father. She put it off several months, come to find out, her half-sister had become her best friend.
Either that, or have Hallmark come out with a new condolences card.
"So you married your sister..."
Maybe I’m way off base, but I am not convinced destroying the marrital relationship is the best thing here.
These two met innocently, developed a relationship and got married.
Is it certain that offspring would be jeopardized, or is it simply more likely that they would be?
At this point the psychological problems for these two are going to be massive no matter what. What a terrible situation.
The guy got a new wife AND discovered a long-lost sibling.
Aren't those both good things?
It's a win-win situation. (lol)
Anyway, that dude will NEVER forget his wife's birthday.
Open all adoption records. Adoptees should not be denied these records.
