BAGHDAD An Apache air weapons team killed four insurgents emplacing an improvised explosive device on a dirt road south of Yusufiyah Jan 6.
An unmanned aerial vehicle initially spotted the individuals emplacing the IED, and then observed them cross a foot bridge and hide in reeds nearby.
The air weapons team from 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, consisting of two AH-64 Apache helicopters, was called in to engage the insurgents. The pilots were able to identify the targets with the help of the unmanned aerial vehicle.
The Apache helicopters fired a Hellfire missile and 30 mm rounds, killing the IED emplacers.
Its good to see how my job fits into the larger picture and helps the air assets to successfully take out the target, said Spc. Matthew Westhoff, from Jacksonville, Fla., mission commander for the UAV, Company B, 3rd Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

Good news the MSM ignores!
I think Apaches fire either 25 mm rounds or 7.62 rounds but I’ll not quibble over raghead deadness regardless of caliber!
Apaches fire 30mm rounds (not the same as the ones fired by the Warthog’s GAU-8). The Bushmaster cannon of the Bradley fires the 25mm rounds.
Either way, you are left with scraps of assorted meat and meat by-products.
Hopefully the ragheads had enough time to see it coming and have a proper "Oh S**t!" moment.
Guess they won’t have the guts to do that again.
....and 30 mm rounds
Just in case.
Oh Yeah!!
This is something that I had wondered why we hadn’t done it before.
Anyone goofing around by the side of the road at odd hours, should have been a fairly good candidate for this treatment.
If nothing else, we sould send out scouts the next day to check out the situation.
When obvious, as in this case, we should nuke the bastards (figuratively).
Excellent!
Dwindling, dwindling...turns out IED emplacer is not a very sound career decision after all. Used camel sales, that’s the way to go...
Agree on the Hooah. But is it my imagination or what... I thought for a while that the names of our warriers weren’t published. It seems that we are seeing more and more articles where people are named.
Kick ass teamwork. Wish our civil law enforcement departments work that well together in “resolving” cases like that.
Death from the sky bump.
No video? I’m bummed!

Thanks and congratulations from the parents of a retired Apache Pilot and Apache Company Commander
If you are Al Qaeda you should be afraid, very afraid. You can pretend you are hiding but deep down inside you know that there are no longer any safe hiding places.
This is a toy but you just have to know that the military will be deploying these by the thousands or tens of thousands in the near future. Some will have video cameras, some will have audio sensors, some will have bullets.
