Mitt did as well as he could in MA with the Democrat legislature bucking him at every turn. However, he tended to want to 'go along to get along' too much for my taste, and we don't need that at the national level.

That is not to say that I wouldn't vote for him, if he ends up being the nominee, but Fred's my guy right now.

Actually Fred did campaign in WY, just not that much. Since WY had almost zero media about the race, I guess Fred decided to contest IA because that’s where the media was. Granted, they still tried to ignore him as much as possible, he did get some exposure from the race. Candidates have to make these determinations when they’re not sitting on large campaign war chests.

Didn’t he get almost as many delegates in WY as IA?

” Huckabee’s continued presence is guaranteeing that either McCain or, less likely, Rudy, will be the GOP nominee. The person that Huckabee is destroying is Romney, who ironically is the only GOP candidate who can hold the Reagan coalition together (save Thompson) and who has the financial resources to go the distance thru the general election.”

JohnnyZ is a victim of MDS (Mitt Derangement syndrome).
He’ll let any RINO become the nominee and be glad of it, even if they are far worse for conservatives than Mitt Romney, so long as he’s not a Mormon.

This nomination is turning into a real Clusterhuck for conservatives.

“This is all a moot point, however. Romney is not gonna win the nomination. Thank God.”

Looking forward to a pro-amnesty McCain/Huckster ticket, I see.

I’d rather have a self-funded candidate than one who needs to pay others back.

Hey, maybe George Soros will join the race and save the day!

“Can you imagine how nauseating a McCain-Huckabee ticket would be?”

Yes, I can, but not on a full stomach.

Of the top contender, Romney is the best man for the job of being our standard bearer for President. He’s the best one to go up against the Hillary machine or the Obama empty suit.

With Romney, conservatives will have a seat at the table, indeed will be the backbone of his administration.
With McCain, conservatives will be the ugly stepchild.

Where and when will Fred Thompson beat Huckabee? Nobody is will to answer that question. Thompson is out if he cannot beat Huckabee.

I’m backing conservative Fred Thompson.

You want to back a liberal named Myth and continue to speculate about dumb things, have at it!

>Campaigning for political contributions is a time honored part of the American way. Its not a hand out. People donate on a voluntary basis. No one is forced to give a candidate money.

No one is forced to give a hand out.

“LOL”

So I fail to see your point. The only point I am making is this criticism of Romney for paying his own bills during a campaign seems really off (and, yeah, liberal). There should be nothing wrong with a man who is willing (and able) to pay for his own campaign.

I would take issue if that money went to buy a vote. I see a far greater danger in a man who must rely on others to provide him with money to run.

It is absurd to whine about Romney for raising money and running as effective a campaign as possible. he’s raised more money than any other candidate for the best reason possible - HE TRIES HARDER.

Romney, the Avis man, is what you WANT in a candidate, and I can assure you, you should prefer the way Romney runs his campaign to the way Thompson has run his.

This ‘buying election’ cr8p sounds like leftwing populist rabblerousing. If you want that kind of politics, go for John Edwards.

We conservatives know that the 1st amendment includes the right to do what it takes to get your message out, including raising and spending money on paid media. Romney needed to compete with well-known McCain and Rudy by getting a lot of financial support and running a serious ad campaign. He did that.
We ought not chastise the man who can say:
“I paid for this microphone”.

“Name me the last POTUS in recent history who self funded his campaign and won the election.”

Ah, that’s the error in your analysis. Romney is not really self-funding but added his own funds to a campaign that has raised more money than anyone but Rudy.

How is that a ‘dumb speculation’?
You dont care if Thompson wins?

The real Myth is your false view of Romney but we’ll let it go.

Fact is, its not Willard's money raising effort that bothers me. Its his liberalism. Always has been.

Now go find someone else to vent on, someone who cares what you think. I don't care about your infatuation with Romney. As far as I'm concerned, Romney's a fraud and a phony.

Romney was only 5% behind McCain, he still is the one with the most delegates, in fact, he has more then twice the amount of McCain. I am so glad that Mitt has the money to stay in as long as he wants. Mitt knows he is in it for the long-haul, and like the good business man that he is, he won’t give up 4easily, as he shouldn’t. The race is too fluid. There are too many variables for anyone right now. Would you suggest that Fred Thomspon drop out just because he only got 1% of the vote? Of course not, it’s too early.

Rush had a theory this morning that liberal Obama supporters, confident that Obama would win went ahead and voted for their next favorite, McCain. Whatever you make of it, that sounds bad for McCain. It means that the election results were a little screwed up based on faulty predictions that influenced and swayed some votes.

Romney is not dropping out, he is doing good in the delegate count so far. Romney should only stop when it is obvious that based on his delegates, it would be impossible to get the nomination. He can continue to come in second place alot and still continue to gather massive amounts of delegates. He only needs to win sometimes, and the others can continue to splinter their wins by trying to gang up on Mitt. But eventually, that will back-fire, as those who engage in those kinds of devious politics will eventually turn on each other. Lets see how long that snake McCain continues to claim that he and Huck like each other, that will last, yeah, right!
