The Latest Installment of my Annual Dean Koontz Conservatism Post
The Darkest Evening of the Year ^ | 1/07/2008 | Onelifetogive

I find myself posting a great Conservative line from the latest book by Dean Koontz every year. This year's book, "The Darkest evening of the Year", does not disappoint.

From Chapter 47, about a terrorist smuggling operation:

Many murderous thugs just hiked across the unprotected border or used international airlines and - wearing T-shirts that proclaimed DEATH TO ALL JEWS in Arabic - breezed through U.S. Checkpoints where highly suspicious federal security personnel strip-searched Irish grandmothers and Boy Scouts on field trips.

My 14-yr. old grandson had outgrown Harry Potter. We got him started in another direction by introducing Koontz. Koontz’s heros are moral, noble characters.

Is this the book about the golden retriever? I gave it as a gift to a friend for Christmas that is a big fan. It received a 3 or 4 stars review in (I think) people magazine.

Yes. And the heroine runs a Golden Retriever Rescue operation. The book is also VERY anti-puppy mill.

I have a 14 y.o. daughter who is a reader. I am not quite ready for her to read Koontz. I like his heroes, but his villians are usually a bit too sadistic. Maybe in a couple of years. Or I may hand-pick a book before then.

I can’t even count the # of Koontz books I have read.
The man writes at an amazing pace and I gobble up his words even quicker.
It’s great fiction and I know it’s not “literature” but his yarns are as good/if not better than anything that hits the Bestseller list.
They might not have been his best books but the Chris Snow and Odd Thomas characters are legendary.

A Dean Koontz book is like a bag of peanut M&M’s. Open it and you can’t stop until it’s finished.

Not only is Koontz a great writer- he's a very courteous one.

Years ago, I sent him a note along the lines of "as long as you write 'em, I'll buy 'em," and he replied with a nice handwritten letter. Good guy, in my book.

Koontz is one of my favorites. A great writer and a convert to Catholicism, as am I. One Door Away from Heaven, from a few years back, is one of my favorites, as it has a beautiful pro-life message. I haven’t read the newest one yet.

While I love Dean Koontz and hate our overly litigious society, I think this one may merit a class-action suit...

That's why I quit buying the 3-pound bag at Costco...

OK. That was weird. I'm not from a government agency and I don't know how many books YOU have read. That was how many of his books I have read...
