Hillary Clinton's campaign, anticipating probable defeat here in New Hampshire on January 8, is gearing up for an extended trench-warfare battle against Barack Obama.
The former First Lady is planning to fight Obama in South Carolina on January 26, and in the gargantuan nationwide primary on Tuesday, February 5 -- with contests in 19 states, including New York, California, New Jersey, Georgia, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and Colorado. If she remains competitive, Clinton's plan is to continue to compete in Louisiana on February 9, in Virginia and Maryland on February 12, in Wisconsin on February 19, in Ohio on March 4 -- and beyond, if necessary.
In an approach redolent of Walter Mondale's 1984 "Where's the Beef?" tactic against Gary Hart, Clinton has adopted the less memorable slogan "Rhetoric vs. Results, Talk vs. Action."
The Clinton campaign is sparing no effort to pressure the media to lean on Obama's perceived vulnerabilities.
Looking to leverage Obama's slender resume, a Clinton operative argued to HuffPost that the campaign will be able to demonstrate that "Obama is just not a plausible person in this environment of international peril," and that the longer the primary campaign can be extended, the better chance Clinton will have to prove that "there is not even a second level to Obama, there is no depth."
The results of this gambit are far from certain. Many political observers here see Hillary on the ropes. "I think Iowa was the best she is going to do. Now she has the stink of a loser on her," said an official from the upper echelons of the 2004 Democratic campaign. In the upcoming states, voters "are just now starting to pay attention, and all they know is that he [Obama] is a winner and she's a loser."
Like Mondale in 1984, Clinton is configuring her campaign to win in states where independents cannot vote. "Clinton got killed among independents and those few Republicans who crossed over," an Iowa operative noted about last Thursday's caucuses. After this Tuesday's New Hampshire primary, where independents can cast ballots in either the Democratic or Republican contest, "We are just going to go to the big Democratic states with closed primaries" says a member of the Clinton inner circle.
Political analyst Norm Ornstein of the American Enterprise Institute warned, "Tactical maneuvering at this point is of limited value, but all [Clinton] may be able to do for the moment is to try tactical stuff, and lash herself to the mast to withstand the [Obama] wave."
arrghh, there'll be no lack of volunteers to put the lash to her!
“The Clinton’s and thier cronies would rather bring the Democratic Party down in flames, than move aside for the “good of the Party”
Not even close. The Klinton’s will do ANYTHING for power, at the expense of their party.
“The Night Of The Long Knives”
Pass the Drambuie and the popcorn please.
If anyone cares, I have been having a discussion on another thread about what this means tactically.
If Obama is the nominee, he faces a desperate problem. His convention is first. He has to pick a VP first. If he and Hillary hate each other, he will have enormous difficulty getting her to be VP.
But if he does not, the GOP has Guilliani as either nominee or VP nominee to grab NY’s EVs.
This puts Obama in a position of not being able to play offense for Indiana’s EVs with Evan Bayh. He has to play defense against Guilliani’s potential for grabbing NY’s EVs from him. So it’s Hillary or Schumer or Spitzer, just to prevent Guilliani as GOP VP from taking EVs he can’t lose.
The Night Of The Long Knives
Speaking of Hitlery’s Brownshirted S.A., I can’t help but notice how QUIET the Clinton Organs MoveOn.Borg and MediaMatters have been on this, so far...
Good point, but he’s got to GET THERE, first...
Arkancide has a way of just sneaking up on you...
Thanks!
BTW, do you think their individual identities are known?
Love the imagery---reminds me of the last scenes from Moby Dick where Ahab was lashed to the great white whale as it barreled through the sea.

Let's not forget that some of those states have had their convention delegate numbers cut by the DNC because they were going to have early primaries, e.g., Florida. This would give greater power to the non-primary delegate numbers.
Fatima, your tag line says “Free Hugs for Christmas”. Is that for Christmas 2008?
I’ll be the first to give you a Christmas hug, then (353 days, 15 minutes, 12 seconds ahead of time),
(((((((((((((((((((((HUGS!)))))))))))))))))))))))
In Michigan’s Instance, the ELECTED delegates got cut, BUT NOT the Super-Delegates.
Can you just IMAGINE the outcry if the DNC and Howie Dean cut off JOHN CONYERS Convention vote??
“TRENCH warfare; does that mean he’ll be found in a shallow grave.”
Bad dog......
(((Hugs))) Needs a popcorn animation on this thread.Need to go to sleep.:)
Although it's a big risk, her nomination might be our best hope. The mention of her name boosts our fundraising and if the youth and minorities are properly disillusioned by her "stealing" Obama's nomination, they might not vote at all to protest. Also, she does energize our bases, all of them, fiscal and social conservatives. And, best of all, if we could just beat her is a real R vs. D race, we might be done with the likes of them forever (if there is such a thing where the Clinton's are concerned).
I filled in all the spaces, today, to post an article. After copying and pasting in all the proper places, I clicked “post”.
Couldn’t post it, because it is not a source FR allows.
The title of the article (Oh, I wish I could have posted it), was “Mrs. Bill Clinton - Loser!”
