Republican Presidential Candidate Debate #14 Milford, New Hampshire 01/06/08 - Official Discussion Thread
Fox News Channel; Roundtable format
Candidates the gatekeepers are allowing to participating:
as much AS any Freeper....
BYRON YORK OF NRO:
In the end, they overshadowed some other noteworthy aspects of the debate. The first was the solid performance of Fred Thompson. He was sharp and focused, making his own points effectively as well as sometimes picking apart his opponents positions. But Thompson, at one percent in the new poll, wasnt trying to win over New Hampshire voters. Hes only in New Hampshire because that is where the national press is, and that is where back-to-back Republican debates are being held this weekend.
Forget about New Hampshire, Thompson aide Karen Hanretty said after the debate. Well get two or three percent in New Hampshire. We have no illusions about that. And a debate, I dont think, is going to change that. Indeed, Thompson has no plans to campaign in New Hampshire while he is here, and on Monday, before the voting in New Hampshire, he will head to South Carolina, where he will make the stand that will either make or break his candidacy.
There is no way I believe that focus group! New Hampshire is a neighbor to Massachusetts. Mitt owns a home in NH.
And how is a group of supposedly "undecideds" (from NH), supposedly a fair cross-section?
I just don't buy it one bit. They were predisposed to look favorably at Mitt.
Shame on Fox for making more out of their opinion than they were worth.
Its like your reading my mind man. I feel the same way.
1. Fred
2. Rudy
3. Mitt
McCain is a maybe, but Huckabee gets on damn nerves! There is something about Arkansas politicians that triggers my gag reflex!
Mitt really does have quite an impressive prescence, and such a warm, interesting, engaging personality.
Mitt needed to do well this evening, and he did!
I heard that—he will get a bounce here after tonight.
Scrolling the threads it becomes obvious Fred is the Freeper favorite (since Duncan Hunter poofed anyway) but with the popular disclaimer of “he can’t win.”
Are we voting for conservatives or carnival barkers?
That would make it Huck vs Obama.
Reagan only changed his views based on the merit of the ideas. I hope people think about this a little more.
Romney changes his views, or rather what he says are his views, based on the merit of running for president and needing to get votes. In fact I can see Romney is a liberal at heart, based on what slips out now and then.
In the Iowa debate, Romeny said “I don’t lose sleep at night worrying about rich people having to pay taxes.”
Last night Romney said “I like government mandates.”
It’s during these moments when his liberal core shows itself. We don’t want the liberalism that has taken root for the past seven years. Romney would increase the liberalism, not decrease it.
So who will you support??
Well, actually, looking only at charisma, and excitement- Obama is the most exciting. Mitt doesn't even come clost to Obama in excitement-so you're right- Obamam wins.
It's over, everyone else should save their money and drop out now.
He is unelectable.
Check out Mark Levin in the Corner blog; he blogs like he talks on the radio: “There I said it!”

“I Don’t Second That Emotion [Mark R. Levin]
I strongly disagree with the Fox All-Star panel. “They all” did not do well tonight. Huckabee demonstrated why he should not be the GOP nominee. He lost. He did badly. He was rambling at times. He was dissembling at times. There, I said it. Good night.”
LOL bttt
Huh? Have you never posted on a live thread before?
I haven’t made one nasty post. Look at the FRed!heads for nastiness.
GWB; John (McCain), you said you know how to get bin Lauden. Tell no one anything. I will send a plane to get you back here to the WH right now.
If your definition of a warm, intersting, engaging personality is that of plastic banana.
I really like a Mitt/Fred ticket. Fred would be the best Dick Chaney ever. This is one huge government (ever been to DC?). Mitt could probably do best at running it and Fred would just shine at keeping the whole thing on track. The MSM would just love whachking him and he would love whacking back.
Obama could not begin to debate Mitt’s positions. The issues many around here for not liking Romney for Obama could not use. This is a great ticket for us.
These were Undecided Republicans in a “purple” state.
If they were solid conservatives they wouldn’t be in the focus group. But we need their votes in November, too. So their reactions are instructive.
I’ve supported Fred and have donated to his campaign. But I think it’s time to hang it up (assuming he doesn’t break double digits Tuesday). He just doesn’t inspire those who don’t know him. And, as much as I hate to say it, it looks like we’re going to be going up a fresh young whipppersnapper who can talk the leaves off the trees. Fred will look too old next to him (Dole revisited).
Sorry Fred.
