LIMA, Ohio Darla Jennings walked through the streets of south Lima last night sobbing as hundreds of people behind her called for justice after the shooting of her daughter, who was killed by police as she held her baby. Tarika Wilson, 26, was shot and her 1-year-old son was wounded when Lima police conducted a drug raid on their home Friday night, prompting members of the black community to organize a candlelight vigil and demand answers from police. "They shot my daughter and her baby," Ms. Jennings said through tears while being consoled by other family members.

“Marijuana and crack cocaine were found in the house.”
If this mother of several was aware of drugs in the home then she is to blame.

It might not have been the best idea to storm the house when they knew infants were there?
I don’t like it, and I’m pretty darn supportive of the police.

--here we go again.
-- IMHO, all police SWAT teams should be disbanded and the members re-issued a . 38 Special with two speedloaders and a pair of brogans with soles about an inch thick and given a long beat to cover each shift, on foot--

How do you know they did not plant it after the fact like they did to Kathryn Johnston in Atlanta?
Using your logic, if they would have fired 500 bullets into the home and killed a neighbor, the neighbor should have known they were dealing drugs next door, so it is their fault.
Or if someone steals your gun and kills someone else that is your fault.
The person responsible for the death of this woman (who was holding the child) is the person that killed her. It is as simple as that.

His [Chief of Police] department late Friday asked the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation to handle the investigation to be fair to the community and his officers. The agency is under the Ohio Attorney Generals Office. Why does the town of Lima need a SWAT team? There are only 40,000 people in this town. Certainly a normal police force could handle all the problems that could crop up? In this case, it looks like a few para-milataries busted in a house and shot dead a mother holding a babe in arms. Then shot the babe.
I don't blame him for kicking this problem upstairs to the Ohio BoCI&I. It's just sickening when these things happen. And they are happening with greater frequency.
Tasers away, Leos.

The woman who was shot already had 6 kids aged 1,3,4,5,6 & 8?
Pit bulls in the house?
Drug dealing with kids there?
Man, this story just says so much about urban life, no?
The dealer was hiding behind kids to ply his trade. Not sure why the cops needed to make this raid or why they needed to shoot but the victim and her boy friend contributed to this whole mess....

I agree. It is a tradeoff between risking the life of 7 innocents to bust a low level drug dealer, which has killed a mother, maimed a child, and left 6 children motherless. A totally irresponsible decision for which the Lima taxpayers will pay heavily.
To: microgood
We should not punish the taxpayers for this.

Actually the avid drug warriors usually avoid these posts like the plague.

Lima, Ohio is known as being a drug trafficking town. It’s a hub for Toledo, Detroit, Indianapolis and other points...at least that’s what people who’ve lived there say.

They’re usually on here gloating over the loss of life and calling us all cop-haters and anarchists. FR has some seriously disturbed posters.

True, but it's really all the family can do. It's not like anyone in the city government or police will be held responsible, so the only way the family can get any justice is through civil action.
If she was a member of my family, those police would be riding around in bicycles for the next 30 years.
To: microgood
They shouldn’t be riding around anywhere, they should be in prison. But the chances of them going there are almost nil.
