LIMA, Ohio — Darla Jennings walked through the streets of south Lima last night sobbing as hundreds of people behind her called for justice after the shooting of her daughter, who was killed by police as she held her baby. Tarika Wilson, 26, was shot and her 1-year-old son was wounded when Lima police conducted a drug raid on their home Friday night, prompting members of the black community to organize a candlelight vigil and demand answers from police. "They shot my daughter and her baby," Ms. Jennings said through tears while being consoled by other family members.

Ridiculous. THe Chinese discovered this way back in the 1800s ~ they tried full legalization. Next thing you know the Narcotrafficantes were carving their country up ~ took them until nearly this century to get the last of them out (which they did with the return of Hong Kong).

Actually they outlawed it in 1796 but to no avail. The only way they eventually eradicated the problem was that the drug dealers (Britain), finally agreed to quit importing it.

In 1900, none of these drugs were illegal in the U.S. Why are they now? What has changed?

All of the original laws outlawing marijuana were done either for racist reasons or by those in the oil industry which wanted no competition. Currently, though much less harmful than alcohol, the justification for its continued prohibition is completely based on lies (gateway drug, schizophrenia, etc).

Your history is so much more interesting than our history.

"Lima on edge after police kill woman, wound 1-year-old child in drug raid"

It's the price we pay for having a society blessedly free of drugs.

Oh, wait...

Thank you! I’ve lived here for 22 years, and see the crime up close and personal. Chief Garlock is a good guy, and is getting flack over this. Tarika Wilson has been in prison for drugs, as has her boyfriends, past and present. It’s a terrible situation, and I have no idea what went wrong, but we will find out after BCI does its investigation.

The black folks are riled, and things are rumored to be happening that isn’t good for Lima. My family is here, and doing quite well. Others are not.

Thanks again for your support. The good people of Lima need it!

So, the oil industry feared competion from the narcotics industry.

You did not know that? William Randolf Hearst cooperated with Anslinger, our first drug warrior, because he feared hemp would compete with his paper industry, but before that, when Ford made an automobile that ran on hemp oil and proposed hemp be used for fuel, he was convinced by the oil industry to oppose that and go with oil.

Maybe they had to shoot the woman because there were no dogs present.

There were two dogs. Both were shot, one died.

Wait a minute "poisoned"? Did he bite a kid ~ there were some rough looking little kids in those movies ~ imagine they ate more than their fairshare of paintchips and had enough lead in their systems to poisona Great Dane or something.

Poor "first" Petey.

It is unfortunate that this person was killed. I reserve my judgment until the facts are established. If this woman raised a weapon at an officer she brought this on herself and the child. This has not been established. One fact that has been established is that it was a lawful warrant and drugs were recovered. The perp has a history of drugs and violence and the police will act accordingly. The moral of this story is avoid people who sell drugs illegally.

Many burglary convictions are druggies, the burglary is prosecuted; the drug use not. I would count a significant percentage of burglaries as due to the WOD.

So too with crimes of violence.

What to measure the percentage of correlation with? That is, how many crimes that lead to time would be reduced by making drugs legal (albeit restricted, in some way, say by tax stamp) Perhaps by comparison with violent crimes where alcohol is a factor versus crimes where drug use or distribution is a factor.

That report you linked shows that something like 28% of all incarcerations state and fed are for drug offenses, adding incarcerations where the crime was committed because the drugs are illegal we could easily be at 40% to 50%. JMHO.

"Imagine when the Democrats get their wish and there is a whole laundry list of new victimless crimes for which to use deadly force against hapless citizens: Imagine an Amerika where guns are banned, it is illegal to own tobacco, it is a crime to own an incadescent light bulb, refined sugar is banned, politically incorrect literature is banned and upon any suspicion of an infraction the Swatzis will storm your door with guns blazing. This is more of the "change" that the left promises us -- death squads to kill us for our own good. "

Those in the know might point out that's what we call a target rich enviornment. Do you think they know how to walk through mine fields too?

When a mother allows drugs to be stored and dealt where her babies are living she’s ultimately responsible for what happens. Mom is supposed to protect her kids and not allow a drug dealer to live with her and her kids.

Nothing ever good comes of that.

Sad.
