As we enter the eighth year of the Bush-Cheney administration, I have belatedly and painfully concluded that the only honorable course for me is to urge the impeachment of the president and the vice president.
After the 1972 presidential election, I stood clear of calls to impeach President Richard M. Nixon for his misconduct during the campaign. I thought that my joining the impeachment effort would be seen as an expression of personal vengeance toward the president who had defeated me.
Today I have made a different choice.
Of course, there seems to be little bipartisan support for impeachment. The political scene is marked by narrow and sometimes superficial partisanship, especially among Republicans, and a lack of courage and statesmanship on the part of too many Democratic politicians. So the chances of a bipartisan impeachment and conviction are not promising.
But what are the facts?
Bush and Cheney are clearly guilty of numerous impeachable offenses. They have repeatedly violated the Constitution. They have transgressed national and international law. They have lied to the American people time after time. Their conduct and their barbaric policies have reduced our beloved country to a historic low in the eyes of people around the world. These are truly "high crimes and misdemeanors," to use the constitutional standard.
From the beginning, the Bush-Cheney team's assumption of power was the product of questionable elections that probably should have been officially challenged -- perhaps even by a congressional investigation.

Do the Demoncrats realize yet that Bush isn’t running again?
Is McGovern still alive? I thought he died in ‘72.
I thought McGovern was dead.
A little late, aren’t you George? I mean, can’t you hold your breath another 12 months?
I’d love to see you Dems try it during an election year. That would be the best gift you could give the Republican Party.
--where did he fall from?
I thought he was long dead. Politically, of course, he is. He will always share the blame for guiding the democrats down the path to socialism that they are now well along; what with a Marxist woman, a faux populist pretty boy and a socialist proto-Muslim the three leading candidates for the nomination.

Early Adult Onset DEMENTIA! Happened many years ago. Now he doesn’t have two brain cells to rub together.
Over 300 Congressional Investigation in the last year, not even a single ethics complaint, much less any criminal indictments. You Leftist clowns have utterly NO ground other then your emotion based hysteric rage at your loserdom for Impeachment.
Is there an unwritten law that says you have to issue stupid pronouncements as you age.
Jeez George, you and Andy Rooney need to shuffle away to the old age home, looking for bargains on Depends as you go.
Both of you are to be pitied.
Just read this and it sickened me. Even quotes Jack Cafferty as the basis to impeach Bush over Katrina. And says Bush/Cheney illegally seized power in 2000! Pure ugly left wing hate.
Be very afraid, the current dem candidates are as left wing as McGovern.
By McGovern’s standard the president he served as a bomber pilot in WWII should have been impeached for throwing U.S. citizens into concentration camps. Oh, but wait, that guy was a democrat.
Hey George, GIVE UP already like you wanted to do in Vietnam and Iraq.
Bush has to go in a year because his term limits will have been reached AS HAVE THE CLINTONS’.
George McGovern has to go.
No wonder this quack lost.
Liberals hate Bush like the Nazis hated the Jews.
I’m serious.
We’re right in the middle of a hot and heavy primary and the Post goes with this????
Let me check to see if I care what this man thinks or wants. Nope.
One of the biggest, if not the biggest loser in American political history calls for a twice elected President of the United States to be removed by act of Congress.
What a total buffoon.
Hey, George. You are as crazy as carter, but at least he was elected.
