The historical analogies for the phenomenon that is Barack Obama have already stretched credibility. For a while pundits likened him to the effete loser Adlai Stevenson, the Democratic partys 1950s version of Labours Hugh Gaitskell, the greatest prime minister we never had.
But Obama doesnt seem like such an airhead after his gritty, crushing defeat of Hillary Clinton in Iowa. I long thought hed win ? but I never thought it would be by eight points, or that hed push Clinton into third place.
So now the favourite analogy is JFK: the young, hopeful rhetorician urging a New Frontier after two terms of conservatism. But that doesnt work either: JFK won by out-hawking Nixon in 1960, and Obama is a clear antiIraq war candidate.
Bobby Kennedy is more apposite: a mix of inner steel and an evolving moral candidacy. Just as a vote for RFK in 1968 was seen by many as a form of collective self-absolution for Vietnam, so Obama resonates among many Americans who do not recognise what their country has become these past few years.
The analogy that worries Republicans the most is a more recent one. Could Obama be a potential liberal version of Ronald Reagan? Could he do for the Democrats what Reagan did for the Republicans a quarter century ago?
Its increasingly possible. Reagan was the cutting edge of the last realignment in American politics. With a good-natured, civil appeal to Democrats who felt abandoned by their own party under Jimmy Carter, Reagan revolutionised the reach of his own party.

Reunited in Hell.
Did you forget the barf alert?
He won’t win any Midwestern states either.
Obama has close to zero experience in handling executive issues. Plus, he never met a tax increase he didn’t love.
I’d love to see a President in office who won all 50 States. (And it won’t be Obama)
Seven years in illinois state politics, and three in the US senate and they’re comparing him with Reagan. Horsesh*t.
Uh, yeah, if you look at his voting record it is all about beeing black.
Thought a Barf Alert would be redundant.
There can be no “liberal version” of Regan. Without his conservative beliefs Regan would not have been Regan. Conservatism is what made him the man, and President, he was. Liberals, none of them, can never be a “version” of Regan.
I agree. Personable. Good at spewing platitudes. No experience. He’s more likely to be another Jimmy Carter than a Reagan.
Derka Derka Obama Jihad

Remember how the MSM went after Dan Quale for weeks about potato spelling? There was barely a mention of Obama’s flub (or whatever).
They still criticize Quayle for that. Obama’s gaffe was not only stupid, it was pretty horrible, done for the purposes of blaming Bush. If a Republican had engaged in that sort of disgusting demogoguery, they’d have been “done” in every sense of the word. So should Barry O’bama.
Reagan was a real man who loved the real America, had real convictions and fought against the socialism and liberalism which Obama represents.
Obama emerges as a liberal Reagan who can reunite America...
b.hussein who was schooled at a madrassas (a liberal Reagan who can unite America)....
is this reporter on drugs or just stuck on stupid!!!!
I’m more Catholic than he is.
I suggest you go to Obama’s website. All his “new ideas” are government programs that are already in place, and failing miserably.
