Well, “the GOP” doesn’t nominate anyone. The GOP voters do. If they don’t vote the way you want, that’s your fault. Your personal fault. Your failure.

You did not campaign hard enough. You did not construct adequately persuasive text or speeches. You did not compile proper phone lists. You . . . personally . . . are responsible for your failure. Conservatives accept responsibility for their actions, both successful and failing.

But you need not worry. You will have a choice between someone left of center and someone right of center. They will both be reaching towards the center, regardless of who they are, but it will be clear which is which.

Brilliantly put. It's become almost cliche to blame the GOP 'bogeyman'. Conservatives wouldn't have to worry about 'RINOS' if they had stronger control of the party in the first place.

If you were trying to get a Thompson supporter to switch to Romney, what would you explain to them about Romney’s past support for various components of the leftist agenda, and the fact that he changed this support for the purpose of running as a conservative?

People have acted wrongly on all sides, but I've had more problems with the Fredheads than with any other group. Even when I was undecided between Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson, they seemed quicker with an insult than any other group. I don't have a problem with someone who disagrees and gives evidence to support his position. I've had some very good discussions with some great supporters of all of the candidates. I have big problems with those whose first response is an insult.

As I said previously, Fred Thompson comes into this primary race with the best chance of holding together the Republican coalition. If his supporters want to do his campaign some good, their first objective should be to avoid antagonizing anyone who might be willing to support Fred Thompson in the future. Most of them do a pretty good job. A few of them are hurting him badly. They guy who started this discussion with the "STOMP MYTH!" statement is not helping Mr. Thompson. You can believe that or not as you wish.

Funny, I feel the same way about Mitt....

I guess we're headed for a Democrat presidency next year.

LOL! Have you ever been to Wyoming? They've got nothing BUT rural.

Yep, and we'd like to keep it that way thankyouverymuch. ;)

Glad to see Hunter bagging at least one, even if sad to say I doubt it'll do him much good.

No, alternates remain alternates. Wyoming lost 11 “at large” and 3 State Rep delegates. Previous to the penalty, these likely would go to the overall winner, although not necessarily. They would have been assigned on May 31, at the state’s convention. Now, only 2 will.

You are 100% correct. Fred is clearly now the best choice to UNITE the Party--while rallying the base--BOTH of which will be required to win in Novemeber.

No other candidate can unite social conservatives, fiscal conservatives and national defense conservatives. Without that solid foundation of conservative support,,,,the dems will win.

I think what does the job is rational thought. Once it is clear who has the funding to compete in the general or not, then despair sets in and disappointment and then some time passes.

Here’s the truth of the matter. No GOP president is going to get ANY agenda at all enacted. His job will be to stop the Democrat majority in Congress from making any significant progress on its own agenda.

That means when the USSC nominations are required, and they will be, a GOP president will not be able to submit a profoundly conservative nomination. He has to be very clever and manipulative and “reasonable” and submit a nomination of a low key, compromising, *MODERATE* jurist.
The right wing base will hate this. The left wing base will hate ANY nomination from a GOP president, but a moderate who is vaguely at best conservative can get confirmed.

This is not going to be a presidency for leadership. The Democrats will not be led. They have to be cleverly manipulated into failure at their own agenda. Bush has been successful so far in stopping them ONLY because he has an adequate constituency in the Senate. It Won’t Be There Next Year. The RNC doesn’t have money to help win seats.

So that is how I persuade, and it will not be persuasion that will appeal to the passionate today, before many delegates are awarded and the long term power of fund raising asserts itself. But I think conservatives think with their heads and not their glands when they have time, and once that time arrives, they will see what must be done.

As an Idaho native, currently in California Financial Exile, I sympathise. It's disgusting what the glitterati have done to Jackson Hole. They did the same to Sun Valley in the 60's.

>>Are you saying that Romney’s nominee for Scotus will be comparable at all to Hillary or Obama’s???

I reject that notion completely but you have a right to your opinion.

Just pointing out the facts. I will say I believe Romney's arm could be twisted a good deal.

Romney’s dirty trick? Floating a false story that Fred was about to withdraw and endorse McCain.

Do you have a link or something that it was Romney's people and not Huckabee's? When it came out my first thought was it was a Huckastunt...lmao

Seriously I've been looking for info in that regard...

“No GOP president is going to get ANY agenda at all enacted.”

This statement shows a lack of faith in a real leader. I believe Fred could get it done, with leadership and creative thinking. He’s shown he is capable of such things. Romney is more of a follower.

The Democrats can be lead. You need to understand the nature of a bully. A bully will crumble if he senses he’s overpowered, and when he does it is very easy to lead him. That’s an undeniable fact of human nature and it will happen when Fred leads this country.

i get your point loud and clear. however, you have to understand where i, as a fredhead, am coming from.

all we see about fred are headlines about laziness, slumping, broke, tired, old, haggard, and on and on...

we see fred for what he is: a no non-sense true conservative who might actually be able to restore dignity and discipline to the white house.

i personally get frustrated with fellow republicans who refuse to see that. but more so, i get fed up with others who merely mimic what they hear from the MSM with regard to fred.

i don't really get into it with other FR's, but from what i have seen, many attacks by fredheads are in response to an attack on fred.

this is how i see it, at least. but your point is well taken.

How very noble of you to stand by your ideology and stay home while damning our troops by effectively putting a lib in charge of them. I’m sure they’d thank you if they weren’t busy putting their arses on the line in the name of freedom while you sit on yours and have a hissy fit because your candidate isn’t winning.

/s

That *is* a winning argument no matter who the nominee ends up being...even Rudy...(cringe)
