Layer upon layer of deception by the Huckster

Layer upon layer of deception

Remember the attack ad against Mitt Romney that Mike Huckabee said he wasn't going to air, but played for reporters so they could publicize his attacks on Romney? It turns out that Huckabee did air the ad -- at least 10 times on four different stations in Davenport and Cedar Rapids, according to FactCheck.org.

Moreover, FactCheck found that Huckabee's attack ad contains several "misleading claims" about his rival. For one thing, the ad says Romney's record as governor of Massachusetts includes "no executions." That's true, but the reason is that Massachusetts doesn't have a death penalty. Indeed, Romney tried but failed to get the death penalty reinstated.

In a less egregious but somewhat misleading claim, the ad also holds Romney accountable for the fact that his state's health care program covers abortions. But Romney didn't make the decision to provide abortion coverage for a $50 co-pay. Rather, the health care legislation Romney signed provided that an independent agency would implement the law and would “develop criteria for plans eligible for premium assistance payments.”

Meanwhile, FactCheck blows the whistle on another Huckabee ad in which he touts his record as a "tax cutter." Among other problems with the ad, Huckabee's tenure as governor actually resulted in a $505.1 million net increase in taxes.

Was just listening to Hannity interviewing Huckabee.

It's obvious that Romney -- and his Mormonism -- really lights Huckabee's fuse.

A glint of prejudice is very unbecoming in a Presidential candidate.

More deception: I just listened to Hannity interview him. When Hannity asked him immigration questions, he turned into a raving weasel. Twice Hannity asked him about giving college tuition breaks and scholarships to the children of illegal aliens, and twice he twisted the question and answered something like, “The federal government requires the states to educate these children.” In other words, he did not answer. The federal government does require K-12 education for all children, but it DOES NOT require tuition breaks and scholarships for them, which was what he was asked to explain. Creepy, very deceptive and dishonest, in my opinion. Nixonesque, even. So now I really have my doubts about the other stuff he said. Another duplicitous, slick, corn pone, ying bastard, if you ask me.

Um, excuse me but no one is a bigger deceiver than Romney. Powerline had very nice things to say about Huckabee back when they thought he had no chance of winning. So what is their deception?

I’m no Romney fan for many reasons, but this was a cheap shot.

I don’t like Huckabee. He’s snake oil.

Huckabee's tenure as governor actually resulted in a $505.1 million net increase in taxes - how does one interpret this? If revenue went up $1billion dollars under President Bush, does that mean he raised taxes?

He’s someone who believes that Christianity = Socialism and will act as a full fledged Socialist while hiding behind the name Christian. That makes him a very dangerous RINO.

It is interesting that you are attacking Powerline (the messenger).

No matter Powerline's motives, it is quite clear that huckabee did not tell the truth about not airing the Romney attack ad. It was bad enough that he announced to the press corp that he was not going to air it and then proceeded to show it to the press corp (a bit sleazy in my opinion), it now turns out that it was aired to the public after all.

So, what is your thoughts on the ad being shown after all when huckabee said it would not?

The media propped him up, they covered him like white on rice, meanwhile, Thompson and Hunter—a complete, total blackout.

RUSH: Here's my problem with this. I say this with all compassion, and I say this with love and respect for all of you who support Huckabee. But how dare you compare Mike Huckabee to Ronald Reagan. That is simply intellectually vapid, and it's grasping at straws. Ronald Reagan not only served as a governor, but he wrote and spoke for years about conservatism. Ronald Reagan was there at the beginning in 1964 about conservatism. I said yesterday, I have not spent a lifetime advocating conservative principles only to throw them away to embrace a particular candidate. I don't support open borders and amnesty. I don't support the release of hundreds of criminals. McCain supports open borders and amnesty. Huckabee released hundreds of criminals. I don't support repeated increases in taxes. I don't support national health care, whether you call it a children's program or whatever it is. I don't support anti-war rhetoric. I don't support Republican candidates trashing the war in Iraq when we're winning it. I don't support Republican candidates claiming the president doesn't read the National Intelligence Estimates as an excuse for him not knowing what the hell is in one. And that's Governor Huckabee.

Huckabee Is No Ronald Reagan; There Is No Reagan in the Race

That's because they are the only two conservatives in the bunch.

Regrettably, it is also unbecoming in some freepers who display more than a glint of prejudice.
