Although there has not been an attempt to take down a jet on U.S. soil with a shoulder-fired missile

Well, I suppose it might not have been a shoulder-launch that took out TWA 800.

“But American is “philosophically opposed” to anti-missile technology on commercial planes, he says. “When you look at the cost benefit, it would be an extremely expensive proposition, and in the end, is it really going to work?””

No, of course not. This is to make people feel safer. Just pray the terrorist has bad aim.

You won’t get me on an airplane ever again until the screening situations and on-time numbers improve. This is just window dressing at taxpayer and customer expense.

Officials emphasize that no missiles will be test-fired at the planes, which will fly between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and the international airports in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The purpose of the tests is to determine how well the laser-jamming technology works on routine flights, how the devices affect fuel consumption and how much maintenance they require, according to Keirstead.

Great! if the fuel mileage ain’t good enough, then the ecoterrorists will have won.. and actually, the thought that we are even contemplating, much less “testing”, such devices on domestic routes should make folks wonder, if maybe, the terrorists haven’t won a small victory against the evil US.

Are we that porous a nation? Many of our elected officials don’t seem to see it that way of late,, yet again..

That this should even be under discussion is an incredible admission that pan-islamism must be mercilessly crushed. Why wait until this becomes afait-a-complis?

Passenger Jets to Get Anti-Missile Devices >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

But pilots cant be armed with pistols and ceramic bullet ammo?

This is getting ludicrous.

Of course it was shot down, the only real question is whether it was an accident by the Navy or on purpose by the terrorists.

Covering this up was essential for the nations economy.

Well, some things are more important than the economy. Those victims still cry out for truth and justice that is still denied them.

Cheaper to just expel all the members of the death cult and prevent new ones from coming in.

What they could do is jettison the wings and tail and fuel tanks and pop a chute that would let the passenger and crew sections down easy. A commercial jet ride would be even safer than a Space Shuttle flight.

I can’t believe they are JUST NOW getting around to this. At the same time, I can’t believe we haven’t had lots of planes shot down.

The world aint fair and knowing the cause wouldn’t bring them back. It would hurt the economy, and our national security by giving the enemy a high profile win. Sometimes things happen that everyone does not need to know about.

Yep, American is "philosophically opposed" to defending its crews and passengers from missile threats. But when a missile takes down a non-Infrared Countermeasure System equipped airplane, they'll blame the government, and encourage the families of passengers to sue the government (i.e. taxpayers), not the airline.

Of course they'd change their "philosophical" minds about this system in a heartbeat if the government would agree to foot the entire bill.

Interesting. El Al began installing devices a few years ago, and France and a few other counties immediately banned their planes from overflying, as well as intercepting several passenger flights in the air. Don’t recall if they changed their minds. As to working, I believe the system is only effective against heatseekers, but were rumored to have been involved in the 2 al Qaida misses in Keyna six years ago.

giving the enemy a high profile win

It may not have been "high profile," but the enemy already knows they won and that our masters covered it up.
