Hsu likely headed to prison; judge rejects dismissal bid

A judge has ruled that disgraced political donor Norman Hsu's 16-year-old plea to a fraud charge remains in effect, meaning the one-time Democratic rainmaker is likely headed to state prison.

Superior Court Judge Stephen Hall rejected Hsu's bid Friday to dismiss his 1992 no contest plea, and was set to sentence him to three years in state prison. Hsu also faces federal charges in New York.

Hsu's lawyers asked the judge to toss his plea, arguing his right to a speedy trial was violated because authorities weren't actively pursuing him during his years as a fugitive.

They could easily have arrested Hsu, his lawyers argue, at one of the fundraisers he hosted in California for prominent local politicians.

“Byron Dorgan Took Money From Norman Hsu, Hasn’t Acknowledged It Or Returned It”

Speaking of North Dakota Democrats and political contributions from shady characters, guess who took money from criminal Hillary Clinton supporter Norman Hsu?

update.. 3 years,, state prison..

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - Disgraced political donor Norman Hsu was sentenced Friday to three years in prison after a judge rejected his bid to throw out a 16-year-old fraud conviction.

Hsu’s lawyers had asked Judge Stephen Hall to dismiss his 1992 no-contest plea, arguing that Hsu’s right to a speedy trial was violated because authorities were not actively pursuing him during his years as a fugitive. They could easily have arrested Hsu, his lawyers argued, at one of the fundraisers he hosted in California for prominent local politicians.

Hsu also faces federal fraud charges in New York.

His troubles began dogging Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and other big-name Democrats last summer when news reports revealed he was a fugitive who fled the state before he was sentenced for the 1992 fraud conviction. He turned himself in on Aug. 31 — then fled again.

He was recaptured in September in Colorado after he tried to kill himself by overdosing on drugs aboard an eastbound Amtrak train. Hsu has since been held without bail in a Redwood City jail.

He would probably die there, however "federal charges" could be handled somewhere else.

Thank you for asking! We have a couple of books in process at this time - one dealing with God and the Observer Problem and the other targeted for a teenage reader on the things he might find unsettling to his Christian beliefs.
