A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest! We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.
Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
I received this in my email June 10th, 2006 - the author is unknown. I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

Hi Rus! Good Word for the day. My people get reminded often about “teaching the children”. When someone proposes that we really have no need for churches or structured religion, my question is: If we had no churches how would people even know that there is a God? How would we learn about Jesus and His sacrifice to save us? People, being people, would soon neglect teaching the children and within a generation, there would be no Christians. It’s almost gotten that bad already. We may not be perfect as churches, but we are the only vehicle for keeping the Gospel alive. End of sermon. :o)

Good morning! What a neat pledge photo, GeeBee! Trust everyone has had a great week in this new year.
Nan, your little Emma is a doll - she's grown so since the last pictures we've seen. Still love that beautiful red hair!
Also want to thank you for your sweet 'thank yous' for the evening gowns for the New Year's Eve Finest Ball that I made. Always loved making paper dolls and this was even more fun. :)
Enjoy your weekend - everyone got their Christmas decorations down NOW? :)

That, as we know is Biblical. Teach and Nurture the children in the Faith and Admonition of the Lord. Most times after they stray they will return to His teachings. We have raised 4 children exactly that way and thank God they have not strayed.
As far as Churches, we need them and we need more of them. We have to get back to the small neighborhood Churches. The mega churches takes away from the small community and family feeling we are use to. I miss that.
We had another Church split one I won’t get into. We have been attending this huge mega church, to me the music is unacceptable. They have a band and it’s more like attending a concert. They constantly stress contributing and raising money and it drives me nuts.
I truly miss my Church, the family, the involvement as I did the responsive readings, lead everyone in worship songs and gave the announcements. You get to know everyone on a personal basis, you know who is in distress, who needs support either Spiritually or monetarily. We had a Prayer list and got updates and were aware of everyones wellbeing. I miss it and need to find another small Conservative Church.

...our Christmas decorations are still up. :) I like hearing that. To me, it is still the season until tomorrow, Epiphany aka "Little Christmas." My lights are still up in the front window.
To: La Enchiladita
We usually leave them up until Epiphany.

BILLIE! I've been hanging out somewhat here for three days now and this is the first time I've seen you. At first it was painful for me to be here, but I think I have gotten over the hump now. I just have to not think about it, and interact with those who are still here. Grief is different for every one of us. With me it is time. I have to work through it one day at a time.
I'm glad you are back. Did you have a good Holiday vacation? Belated, but MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! :O)

I do so agree with you Rus. My little congregation in the country is small (30-35)and is the center of the community. They care for and pray for those who are in need. We have Bible study and Prayer meeting on Tuesday mornings during winter to keep the elderly off the highway after dark, and then go back to Wed. nights during daylight savings time. We teach the children in Sunday School and I always have a “Children’s Time” during worship. In fact that is the biggest challenge I have in my job; coming up with good illustrations for the children. I could use all the help on that that I can get. So, if you see or hear any good illustrations for Bible lessons for children send them to me. I’ve mined the internet and think I have just about exhausted the mine. I take seriously the job of teaching the children/young people.

Me too. Mine will stay up until weather allows KET to get out of the country to help me. I depend on her for those kinds of things.

Hi, Nan. I was going to post to you (then got into something else here) that I enjoyed looking at your homepage!! I was listening to some old bluegrass and country tunes this morning, and that WV country road is the perfect illustration to go with the music...:)
I also have lots of angels, love to read and to hike.
The rain here has softened the urban hard lines. The trees and plants are glistening, the air is fresh and brisk. Oh, how we needed this. It is the lull between storms right now in SoCal.
I remember KET, but seems like at least two years since I’ve seen her post. I believe she has a husband or son in the service?
Hello to everyone. I stayed off forum while it was so sloooowww.....:)

Hi Billie. I am always one of the last to get Christmas stuff down. Just put my cards away a couple of days ago. How are things over your way?
To: WVNan
It's the first day I've been here since Monday evening, but I checked out my comments and saw you were here and saw your beautiful Emma's pictures and your post asking where I am! :) Thank you for asking!
Very nice Christmas and New Year Holiday here, hope yours was.
I still miss Maggie, too, especially when I run across some of her posts when I revisit an old thread. :(
It's really wonderful to see you. There have been many who've come and many who've gone over the years. It's always sweet to see the return of one of our favorite friends.

Hi, dita, I’m always one of the first to put things away - right after Christmas Day! However, a friend and I ‘help’ each other decorate and undecorate, and she puts hers up earlier and leaves it up longer, so it works well for both of us. Just got hers down this Thursday. :)
