Ok, I phrased that wrong. But remember during the amnesty debacle, he wouldn't come out at all against what W was doing. Or what the party was doing to itself. He was against the amnesty bill and was quite eloquent about it. But I was thinking more of before the bill - when most of the other talk show hosts were talking illegal immigration at least every other day. There was a good 6 ot 9 months where Rush spoke about it maybe 2 or 3 times. He was great, eloquent, to the point, and dead on about it. But it was so seldom, I was extremely frustrated. It seemed to me he was trying to NOT say anything bad about the administration, so he said nothing about the illegal immigration problem.

At one point, after the 2006 election, he said he wasn't going to be the GOP waterboy any more and only then was he talking openly. Long, long after all the other hosts.

That's what I meant. He's been conservative all along, no doubt. But he hasn't been open and honest about how the party fell apart.

Emily, I don't remember the diatribe against the GOP during the amnesty debate. But to be honest, I quit listening to him every day when he was avoiding the illegal immigration issue for a good 6-9 months before the amnesty bill. After about 3 months, I went elsewhere. His reality was not the reality I was seeing in Mexifornia. Gladly, that has changed!

Now I'm going to really confuse you.

I believe that Mormonism IS a cult according to the criteria described in the book mentioned earlier on this thread, but I would have no problem voting for a Mormon for POTUS if he were a conservative.

I loved Rick Warren's book and have gone through two extended studies of it in my Sunday School class. I adore Joel Osteen and listen to or record him every Sunday and I have even been to see him in person.

I am a very active member of a mainline Methodist Church, but I was raised a Presbyterian minister's daughter. I have many beliefs that you might refer to as fundamentalist and I very much enjoy Bible studies, particularly those by Beth Moore.

I have a Masters Degree in Biology and have been teaching both Biology and Medical Laboratory Technology for over 20 years, but I do not believe that Global Warming is anything other than a natural phenomenon that man has no power to cause or to stop were it really the crisis that Al Gore claims it is. I do not agree with Rick Warren on this issue, and I have never even heard Joel mention it at all.

At the same time, I believe that were Huckabee to become the GOP nominee for POTUS, it would be a disaster! He is NOT a conservative and his views on immigration and the WOT alone should disqualify him in any thinking person's mind for the office of president. He is the worst of both worlds - he might allow an unqualified Dem to win the WH, but he would also be a Republican version of Jimmy Carter were he to be elected POTUS. We can NOT afford to make such a mistake at this critical point in the history of our country just because one man is able to fool politically uniformed evangelical Christians into voting for him.

That speech by Obama was Obama and sounded natural and not contrived or written for him by someone else...hes way ahead of Hillary in the speech area...

He would be harder to beat than Hillary...

Acutally, any possibility I might have ever supported Fred Thompson (and he was my second favorite prior to this) was nullified by your fellow FredHead in in this post.

I have always made an effort to treat others with dignity and respect, even in disagreement, and will disassociate myself as far as possible from this sort of thing. While there are some good folks for your guy, there is simply too much of this type of thing among the Fred Thompson supporters I've encountered. I've sent a mass-email - twice - to my fellow Hunter supporters in past months to exhort against this exact behavior.

In what way has Iowa ever mattered? In its predictive power for nominees... Somewhere less than half the time?

Well, I wouldn't put down Iowa, but we do have 28 more primaries in the next month. It's a long way to go.

Iowa has a lot of liberals to begin with. I think Romney did very well here with Huckabee capitalizing on religion. Huckabee isn’t doing well in New Hampshire. Romney soundly beat the rest of the field.
