WEAPONS OF CHOICE Shopper pulls gun, stops robbery cold Held suspect at grocery store until police officers arrived

A grocery store customer in Indianapolis is being credited with halting an armed robbery by pulling his own weapon and pointing it at the assailant until police arrived.

According to a report in the Indianapolis Star, Charlie Merrell, 51, was in a checkout line at a grocery store called Bucks IGA on the city's south side when a "masked man jumped a nearby counter and held a gun on a store employee."

The police report cited by the newspaper said the incident happened at 5:17 in the afternoon Monday as Merrell was doing some year-end shopping.

"While the suspect was demanding cash from the workers," according to the police report, "Merrell pulled his own handgun, pointed it at the robber and ordered him to put down his weapon."

Just as dumb as racking the pump on a shotgun.

Trust me on this one.

Nothing brings order to a chaotic situation faster than racking a 12 ga.

And here's the actual story referred to in the WND story... http://www.theindychannel.com/news/14967933/detail.html, mentioning the police report that states Mr. Merrell racked the slide. WND actually got it right! >shock<

That is the story I refered to and I do not see where it says he racked the slide.

BTW, not trying to start an argument. I was simply pointing out an alternate version whah I saw it.

The newspaper noted that Officer Jason Bockting, in his documentation of the incident, said when the suspect seemed to hesitate, "Merrell racked the slide on his gun to load a round in the chamber."

Many who carry Glocks, carry de-cocked with a full magazine.

Glocks have three safeties,
however all three are disengaged when the trigger is pulled.

This is similar to revolvers which have safeties,
but they are all disengaged when the trigger is pulled

Yes, probably the best course of action when caught up in a robbery is to simply shoot the perps without any “drop the gun!” nonsense. That is, assuming a clear shot and no customers behind the perps.

Two dopes with empty weapons.

Somthing along the lines of - never cover anything with your muzzle that you don't intend to kill - comes to mind.

Nice piece. I'm 5'7", and carry this Kimber in a Fobus OWB, Galco IWB, and Galco jackass rig, depending on weather/wardrobe/destination:

Oops...I mispasted.

This is the link I meant to paste: http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008801020457.

I wasn't trying to start a fight, either...I was just giving credit to WND since I so often point out their misrepresentations. :-)

One of my Husband’s Brothers has a Glock, and Loves it. I Fired One at the Gun Range Months Ago, and will Try Another Again Soon. (Thank you for the Idea, because I’ve Forgotten how it Handled; I’ve Fired So Many Guns.) My Favorite Gun is my Sig .45.

Ha! I believe it’s 100% cowhide. Galco makes great quality stuff, and it’s pretty pricey. Fortunately, my JR was a birthday gift this year.

Bought ny wife a ccw class and state permit for her birthday. 3 years ago it was full body health exam..saved her life from a tumor.
Bought her a snowthrower and concealed carry purse for this years Cmas. Hope results not the same result. I DON’T want her to have to use it. Hope she never uses both.
Got a big kiss from her for both.
A locked and loaded concealed weapon is very comfortable.Watching her walk out the door with weapon for a terrible town trip is a good feeling
.357 or larger with MagSafe rounds. She toutes a S&W .357
2 to the chest 1 to the head. Keep an extra round in case they get up.

Suit yourself.

I'd like to point out that we are both still alive, so we could both be right...

From what I gather on that sentence, you don’t want her to have to put the CCW to use, but you also don’t want her to put the snowblower to use either?

Better yet, check out the slim hawg, a nice thin single-stack. That’s what I carry... I’ts half the size of my p229 (although heavier). Some don’t like the fact they only have 6 rounds, but I see I see it this way, I should only need one, two tops.
At home in bed, I sleep with a H&K USP .45 on the nightstand (I may need more ammo in the dark!)

One thing should be noted, I had reliability problems with the slim at first, but a 3 day stayover at the local custom shop solved that. Haven’t had a jam or malfunction in almost 500 rounds since then. Needed a little work on the ramp / eject port and mags. Too bad I spent that much on a handgun then needed to tweek it, but damn it’s a fine weapon now.
Heres a good photo og it:

Note: The photo on that link is excellent, the price however, is not. You can find them quite a bit less pricy elsewhere.

If she doesn’t use either weapon or snowblower it’s fine by me. S.N.O.W. snow not on wishlist.
