DES MOINES, Iowa – Several Republican officials close to Fred Thompson’s presidential campaign said they expect the candidate will drop out of the race within days if he finishes poorly in Thursday’s Iowa caucus.

I suspect some here on FR involved as well. Certain posters have been spreading this rumor for about a week. They were also spreading rumors here about Fred being broke for a couple days before that slimy POS Rollins opened his diarrhea-spewing pie hole.
A finish of Huckabee, Thompson, Romney might even be better for Thompson. It would show him as electable and able to be the Mitt-buster. This would drag a lot of support from Huckabee to his camp.
It may not be likely, but this is a speculation post.

I can’t remember — it was the “my man mitt” guy who was somehow the only media contact with the push-polling firm, I think. And after Romney’s campaign was busted for setting up media interviews with two ladies who received the push poll calls (without disclosing that these ladies were paid Romney staffers) it was “my man mitt” who was trying to push a story that the ladies were just old and confused, and didn’t think to disclose that the Romney campaign employed them.
It’s really gross to me when people can compartmentalize so well — they live okay personal lives, but are utter and complete sleazes on the job. I’ve seen it a million times in business, and it seems to me as if Romney’s another one of those types.
Self-fulfilling prediction. Such noise will reduce his vote count. He will probably not do well but I hate it that his guys are promoting that result.

I have to agree with you about Romney but I wish it were not Romney. That would put us down to having to promote the best Liberal Republican running in order to beat the flat-out Marxist.

Yep, someone’s feeling desperate so this is the Iowa Caucus version of the “October Surprise.” With the deep pockets of the Romney campaign, I’m sure they’ve had the opposition researchers digging dirt like there’s no tomorrow. If this is the best they can do, then as long as Iowans don’t fall for it Fred’s clean and in good shape.
That totally sounds like the guy I dealt with, so it wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

Romney is my absolute LAST choice, Rudy is no choice at all.
At least Romney's a person who I could have someone hold a gun to my head and force me to vote for if there is no other choice but Hillary or Obama, but I can't say that for Rudy. If it comes down to Rudy or a Democrat I'll find a minor party nominee who I can vote for just so I won't break my string of voting in 13 straight presidential elections.
I’m going to ping everyone on this thread as Fred is sworn in next year.
Fred could announce he is dropping out on live TV, change into a grass skirt, get full facial tattoos and move to a south sea island...and some people would still hold out hope for a surprise re-entrane into the race.
