Rudy Giuliani's once solid lead among Republicans nationwide has vanished, and John McCain -- whose campaign was regarded as dead in the water this summer -- is back on top with the GOP leaders. McCain has 22 percent support among Republicans, followed by Giuliani at 20 percent and Mike Huckabee at 17 percent. Mitt Romney follows at 12 percent with Fred Thompson at 19 percent. The survey was conducted Dec. 19-30 and has a 5 percent margin of error.

I think Fred’s 19% is a typo. I’s probably supposed to be 10%.
Word,Yo!
Why is Fred listed last at 19%?
Seems to me thats a statistical tie for 1st with McCain and Judy Annie
Whoops. Not 10%. Fred is at 9%.
It should be 9%
Wasn’t Fred at 22% a couple months back? 9% is a freefall.
This is a poll of registered voters, not of likely voters.
It indicates to me the sad state of the party. If Fred’s a dud, McCain has been downright comatose and should be lower than Fred. As of yet I’ve heard no real good reason as to why McCain is doing so well.
“Ive heard no real good reason as to why McCain is doing so well.”
Only because of the support from the MSM.
I think McCain is doing well now for the same reason Guiliani was before; GOP voters want someone they think can beat Hillary in the general election.
I agree and believe McCain would do more to counter lying BS then turn his back. My preferences lie with Thompson and Hunter but traction they get not.
Dittos. My thoughts exactly. As a Thompson supporter I have become underwhelmed with Fred's campaign. If he can't even fire up Republicans how could he fire up independents and even conservative dems to vote for him. There's just no fire there. He was the front runner on Oct 1 and has pissed it away.
The poll was conducted from 12/19 to 12/30, so it’s almost old news before it’s even completed.
He pissed it away by not seizing the mantle as the national security expert with his various chairmanship credentials.
Which doesn’t explain why McCain is suddenly doing so good. McCain was the front runner, pissed it away, and he’s been nonexistent for months. Now he’s surging.
It’s a long road to November.
Right. Well maybe there is hope for Fred. Look at this if you haven’t already.
