Late-Breaking Surge for Thompson
National Review Online ^ | 2 January 2008 | Peter Robinson

Posted on 01/02/2008 3:09:35 PM PST by big'ol_freeper

The latest news from Iowa? According to Zogby’s latest—and I quote: “Sen. Fred Thompson…has seen a late-breaking surge.” (Rich notes the same poll below.)

What’s going on here? My guess is that there are whole lot of Iowa Republicans who have about the same attitude that David Limbaugh displayed in his column yesterday:

Fred is the only [candidate] I don't have major reservations about….I find his lack of "fire in the belly" refreshing. He strikes me as one of the few presidential candidates since Ronald Reagan whose primary motivation is not personal aggrandizement but rather serving and leading the nation in very troubled and dangerous times. I see him as almost being drafted into this project, and his refusal to drool publicly over the prospect of becoming the most powerful man in the world is positively delightful.

Tell me the thread and post number where you reveal who, on this second day of January, 2007, on the eve of the presidential primary, is your proposed alternative to Fred Thompson.

Well it's enough to make him my candidate (as he has been from the start) but obviously not enough for 90% of GOP voters.

Since not ONE vote has yet been cast, I guess that remains to be seen.

I actually made a contribution to Fred.

For me, this is huge!

I am notoriously stingy and not long on funds.

But if Fred gets a little mo goin’ I will dig in again.

To paraphrase Rush from today's show...
In direct reference to choosing a GOP nominee, and with specific reference to the liberals (The Mayor, and the Governors deux):

"You can compromise your principals if you choose to, just don't ask me to compromise mine..."

He AGAIN stated that there is only one tried and true conservative in the race - and he's not from MA, AR, NY, or AZ.

Go Fred Go!

Well then indluge me and remind me. WHO? A name, penelopesire? At least, I'm begging, tell me the post number and thread. Really. I'm a little simple and too slow for you, but surely not too slow to find the post where you answer the question: Who do you support over Fred Thompson?

would you characterize him as a conservative or liberal?

Flip floppers by definition are both. Conservative and Liberal or whatever it takes.

Fred has talked about his National Security experience ever since he entered the race. All of his supporters are familiar with it. His statement upon the death of Benazir Bhutto was the perfect example.

I just don’t get how any real conservative can favor any of the other candidates. It baffles me.

You're not alone.

It would be best to have them both on the same ticket

Then write and post and encourage Rep Hunter and Sen Thompson to hook-up.
Thats what I've been doing for 3 months.
What a ticket that would be.
The Dream Team of Republican politics, and a nightmare for the dhimmicrats.

You have said that you like Hunter, that you'd be "biggest FredHead ever if he gets the nomination!" and have reassured readers not to worry, that you'll vote for whoever Republicans put up. I've seen all that.

I ask AGAIN: Who do you support over Fred Thompson? Who do you think is the better alternative right now, during this primary, which is what this is all about? What do you recommend? I know what you think of Thompson. Now tell me what you think is the better choice.

I'm calling your bluff, dear. All you have been able to reply is either "u are making personal attacks" and "If you don't know where I stand, then you're an idiot!"

Once again. Just a name. A one-word reply post. Who do you support over Fred Thompson? Is it really THAT hard for you to answer?

There is obviously a disconnect between die hard Conservatives like us who know what is going on and regular folks who will vote for style over substance.

The ordinary sheeple don’t care about limited Gubmint or conservatism. It’s a High School popularity contest. Their votes cancel yours and my informed vote for Fred out.

Good grief...I will support Duncan Hunter over Fred Thompson at this point. Fred puts me to sleep...and if he puts ME to sleep..he will put the rest of the electorate to sleep.

Only Hillary’s screech will wake folks up....LOL

I am counting on folks finding that Fred is the only real conservative and will vote for him in such numbers that we will easily outvote those who vot for the RINO’s. Looking forward right now to seeing Jeri Thompson on On The Record with Greta. Don’t usually watch her show, but with Jeri on I sure will tonight. GO FRED!

Thought you would like this:

Thompson’s message to voters was the same as it’s been since he started a marathon Iowa bus tour Dec. 17 - that he’s the only GOP candidate with national security experience who also can win the general election.

“This is not the time to elect a president who needs training wheels when it comes to foreign relations,” Thompson told a crowd of about 60 at a his first speech at an Elks club in Mason City.

You can come out and support him now without blasting him at every step... if that is what you truly want.

Thank you. *whew* I respect your right to support a candidate who has run such a sleepy campaign that he's not once made the radar in real-life terms, while criticizing for putting you to sleep the one other candidate out of a field of a half-dozen who HAS made the radar and who is the ONLY ONE who solidly represents the same conservative values as Hunter.

That's your story, and you're sticking to it, I suppose. But I bet I know what will happen no matter who wins the primary -- your future posts will, oddly, ALL be critical of that candidate while professing to admire him but ...
