BALTIMORE (AP) For the first time, the non-white children enrolled in Maryland's public schools outnumber the white children.
Enrollment data show 48 percent of the students in the state's public school systems are white. African-American, Hispanic and Asian-American students combine for 52 percent.
The evolution has meant gradual changes. Schools are expanding classes for non-English speakers and creating smaller classes in schools with large numbers of minority students.
Demographers say a decline in the white birthrate is one factor in the changing faces of the state's school children.

Whites are still a plurality though.
i remember watching some comedy stand up show once and the performer on stage said something like ‘whites will be a minority in the united states in the year 20xx’ (i forget the exact date)
and the mostly white audience all cheered like thoughtless fools.

so minorites outnumber whites. which means whites are now a minority. which means they outnumber themselves and they discriminate against themselves.
this is modern feel good arithmetic where 2 is less than 3 but 2 is greater than 3.
It sounds like a convolution in terms, but it isn’t. Whites are still the largest segment, even though all minorities combined outnumber them.
In California Gray Davis held a celebration when the white populace in the state dipped below 50%. And no, that wasn’t racist at all... (Harumph!)
Well if 48% of the students are white, that is still
a majority.
No one race is more than than 52%.
Combined they are majority.
Logical, maybe not, but this is MD.
I wonder if they consider a person who is half white to be a minority
This isn’t anything new. In the mid 70’s my high school was 60% black and 40% white. When mandated busing started they had to bus whites into my school from several other districts. That’s when the problems started, only it was from rival schools not black or white.
