In addition to his own pioneer roots (i.e. Parley P. Pratt, Miles P. Romney, Eyrings, his father) Mitt Romney has certainly established his own deep LDS roots. He served a full-time mission, graduated from BYU, married in a LDS temple and served as a Bishop. Perhaps his longest experience in being in the thick of Mormonism was when he spent a decade as an LDS Stake President. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stake_President#Stake_officers for some reliable information on what a Stake President does in the Mormon/LDS church. The Mormon apologetics have been busy dealing with everything that comes with someone like Mitt running for President. I've put this thread up so Freepers could know what the Mormon apologetics are saying about this Mitt situation.
I’ve been reading quite a bit about Smith lately, but those quotes you provided are new to me.
wow.
Absolutely....wow.
“Why is there no call for renewal & reformation from grassroots Mormons as to how their leaders have misled them?”
I don’t know. If I had to guess, I would guess that this isn’t just about religion. This is also about family - their community, their culture.
If one thread is pulled loose, I’m sure it is scary for them to consider how much might unravel.
“Romneys record is good and conservative.” ... Except on alive embryos dissected for research, homosexual enabling, increased taxation (enormous fee increases, stealth taxation), and enabling illegal immigrants. He has a nice family though ...
“THE MSM will demonize? How about FReepers? I seriously dont think the MSM could do a more thorough job than many here on FR.” Well, look at the polls at FR. If FReepers have that kind of impact, what would you expect in the MSM and impacting a less knowledgeable public regarding the peculiarities of Mormonism?
