"...Ron Paul crashes..."

RP supporters should have kept quiet about being dropped from the FOX debate. (Not that leaving the door open on Russert's third-party candidacy query could have helped).

BTW: Notice how swollen Ron Paul's knuckles are? I think it's an indicator of physical decline—and what must be happening to his synapses. He's doing well now, but as leader of the country from 2008-2012?

==8-0

Oh boy, will she ever have a snit. Hide the ash-trays and lamps.

Yeah, but I can finally break out that case of popcorn I've been sitting on for just this occasion....

In the interests of intellectual honesty, Ron Paul didn’t crash, as he was polling the same in the last Strategic Vision poll.

This question is worded to trap the naive and gullible into appearing as what the pollsters want.

I, too, would want the troops out of Iraq in 6 mos. Sooner, even. But what I want and what is rational and in America’s interest are two different things in this case.

These people are probably thinking about all those families who are missing a loved one that’s over in Iraq, or about the National Guard needing to come home or some such. Or maybe that the Surge has worked so well we can start coming home. You cannot tell what these people truly believe.

I’ve heard that Iowans are notoriously antiwar, across the board. Well, why would any of them be Republicans, then? Why would any of them vote for Romney or McCain or Thompson, etc, if what they are truly saying is that they want us to cut and run out of Iraq and lose that battle in the War on Terror??

It makes no sense to suppose that they mean what the pollsters intended them to say.

The polls here in Iowa are all over the place. Huck up by seven in one poll and Romney up by two in another. Thompson up, Thompson down. McCain third, McCain fourth.

Just ignore them.

There is so much handwringing here at FR about Huckabee and I’ve done some of it myself.

However, even if he wins the Iowa Caucus, it is a poor predicter for the future.

And all of us who see right through his hocus pocus bag of tricks should focus on THIS: Look at how many people who were polled DO NOT WANT HUCKABEE! They are for a variety of other candidates or undecided, but it adds up to 72% NOT FOR HUCKABEE.

The delusions among Fred supporters on FR are spreading faster than herpes at a Playboy party. Let's keep hold on reality, people.

I'm certainly not encouraged by these numbers. However this forum is primarily devoted to conservatism, and Fred, better than socialist Romney or liberal appearer Giuliani, represents that conservatism better.

The support for "moderates" on FR is a symptom of something we should be deeply concerned about on this forum. I've noticed the purge here as of late, many FReepers are missing these days. During an election year, yet, when the movement should be swelling. A sign of a major schism at FR that's readily reflected in the Republican platform? I think from the perspective of FR as a microcosm of the conservative movement, yes.

There's always a reference to a conversation about the Constitution not being a suicide pact.

Is conservatism? Will we be compelled to destroy more hopeful prospects for the presidency in order to preserve our philosophy, even if it bears greater threat from the democrats winning the Oval office, house and senate?

Perhaps so. In compromising our positions, we diminish ourselves beyond identity. Republicans in general may be comfortable with that, but the results hasn't helped them any in elections. The democrats didn't change any of their positions (pure hatred of anything Republican, particularly conservative) and they've got the house and senate now.

From that perspective, it's the moderates in the party that have done more damage to Republicans than conservatives being consistent on their position and platform.

So yes, it may appear to be delisional to hope for a long shot like Fred Thompson. In the end, he may not be the great conservative hope we would like him to be. However, given the candidates and their platform, Duncan Hunter and Thompson seem to be the only viable candidates from a true conservative, non-compromising position.

And really, when you ask about the two biggest issues of the campaign, the WOT, National Security, Illegal Immingration and Tax Reform, RudyMcRomBee are miserable failures on most of those points.

Rudy shined on 9/11 but his affiliation with neo-mobster Kerrik on position of trust with security damage him beyond any credibility.

Romney is a socialist butt-kisser who crushed the MA healthcare system by government mandated policies and fines that are currently sending the quality of care into a tailspin while fining individuals who rejected his tyranny.

Huckleberry is Jimmah Cahtuh redux. Period.

McCain... My idiot, liberal brother in law is voting for McCain because McCain's the best democrat for the job.

What choices are we left with once we've actually research the alternatives?

Check my posting history. You'll see my research on Romney at least. Huckleberry speaks for himself. The others? Damaged goods as heavily reported here.

So really, in the end, where is the delusion taking place?

Conservatives supporting the most likely conservative or abandoning our principles and diminishing the party by letting RINOs take it over?

Either way, it's a sad field of candidates out there in either case that we don't have any major conservative that we can't all unite behind as Republicans...then again, I'm not so sure I want to be "united" with Republicans at all.

Wow, Kooks for Paul seem to have disappeared over the New Year celebration.

Perhaps the space ship took them all to a better place?

I predict FRed will finish in 2nd place in Iowa. A 2nd place finish will shock the pundits.

Sadly, I see no FDT surge at all. In fact, he lost two points.

If Clinton finishes 3rd in Iowa, she’ll be finished.

I’ve been saying for many months now that she would not be the Dim nominee in 2008. I still say that.

Fred Thompson 13% “

LOL. Any more surges like this and Fred’s campaign will become a tidal wave.

I’m not sure which will be more embarrassing for him: losing to an ethanol-basher in Iowa or losing to Ron Paul in NH.

Of course, it “could” still happen that somewhere out there is a massive group of GOP voters who like what they see and hear from Fred on the campaign trail. But I have my doubts.

I look for Fred to take 4th in Iowa. Then look for him to go ahead and drop out. That will save him the embarrassment from having to go to South Carolina.

An interesting note in these polls; If you only take the people who voted democrat in the last election, Hillary wins. So, Reublicans and Independants are saying they are voting against Hillary.

Lets hope it works.

She can lose in IA and NH and still be the nominee, for B.C. controls the party machinery. But Obama would be even more popular with misguided northern voters in the general election.

I like your prediction (I agree) and from the ground reports I don’t think the pundits have a feel. His organization is not quite as large as Romney’s but he has some great conservative infrastructure on the ground - and I never trust holiday polling.

Go FRed Go!

I’ll agree with you. Thompson, if anything, doesn’t want to be embarrassed by losing the first five primaries...he’s a good man and doesn’t deserve such a thrashing...

Quite right. He could be a good President, I think, also.

But alas he is a horrible candidate and doesn’t show much interest in improving. Nowadayw you can’t separate being President from being a candidate. Now, if he could just be appointed President, he would do fine.

But Thompson isn’t going to go very far in this campaign. This has been sad and frustrating.
