PARIS, January 1 (RIA Novosti) - Vandals burned down 372 cars in France, or about the same number as last year, French news radio France Info said on Tuesday citing police sources.
Vandalism ahead of and during big holidays has become a bad tradition in France in the past few years. However, police said last night was relatively quiet, with 259 people arrested for hooliganism and 4 policemen receiving light injuries.
"Globally, last night was relatively calm, without any serious incidents. There were few clashes with police while tension in troubled neighborhoods was considerably less pronounced than in previous years," police said.
A total of about 25,000 policemen, including 4,500 in Paris, were on duty on the New Year night across the country to ensure law and order.

My daughter gave me a “My Cousin Vinny” DVD for Christmas. This reminded me of it. I think I’ll go watch it.

I am only posting so that my tagline can be included in this thread.
But I don't know what "it" is that they are doing something about. At least they are doing something. Looks like they are winning the war against parked cars.

It’s just a quaint French custom. We set off fireworks; they torch a few (hundred) cars. Who are we to judge?

Have to say this; but is their President still out of the country with his honey?

More “Angry Youths” eh?
They should raise taxes and condemn George Bush - that’ll fix the problem.

SARCASM ALERT!
Listen here, buster. I’m an American Frog and I have never burned a car in my life. So, stop stereotyping those of us who are of French descent! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must go consume my delicious crossiants arranged in the shape of the Eiffel Tower. Oui!!! :)
