Book Review - Kenneth Timmerman's 'Shadow Warriors' (Vanity)
31 December 2007 | K-one Texas

Came to my attention as one of the stories in the January 2008 issue of Newsmax magazine. [It is not on their web site though]

I missed the prior post on the Kenneth Timmerman interview, read it today ... excellent. Included link below.

Shadow Warriors
The Untold Story of Traitors, Saboteurs, and the Party of Surrender
by Kenneth Timmerman

An alarming but necessary book that reads like a thriller. By raising uncomfortable questions, Ken Timmerman has performed a significant public service."
–Michael Medved, nationally syndicated talk radio host

Some have called it the CIA's greatest covert operation of all time.

It is an intelligence war conducted behind the scenes, aimed at confusing, misleading, and ultimately defeating the enemy. The goal is nothing less than toppling the regime in power. A network of agents has been planted at key crossroads of power, stealing secrets, planting disinformation, and cooking intelligence. The plan involves sophisticated political sabotage operations that bring in opposition forces who can challenge the regime openly, in a way the CIA cannot. The scope is breathtaking.

Who is the target of this vast, sophisticated CIA operation? Not the mullahs in Tehran or North Korea's power-mad Kim Jong Il; the target is America's president, George W. Bush.

Drawing on exclusive information from senior government officials, intelligence operatives, and many others, investigative reporter Kenneth Timmerman provides the full, untold story of the sabotage that occurs behind the scenes at key government agencies like the CIA and State Department–and the profound effect it has on America's ability to confront its most dangerous enemies. In Shadow Warriors, Timmerman brings to light the vast underground working to undercut our nation's efforts to win the war on terror–revealing the when, where, how, and who for the first time. He also exposes the Democratic politicians who have sold out America's national security for political gain.

In Shadow Warriors you'll learn:

•How the CIA and State Department sabotaged the administration's Iraq war plans from the start–sparking the insurgency in the process
•How a high-level State Department official gathered aides after Bush's reelection to insist they owed no allegiance to the president or his policies
•How pre-war intelligence on Iraq was cooked–not by the Bush administration, but by its opponents
•How and why the shadow warriors have leaked details of virtually every covert U.S. intelligence tool used in the war on terror
•How the leaks have devastated our efforts to fight terrorism–such as when a key U.S. ally rebuffed the CIA director's request for assistance by saying, "You Americans can't keep secrets"
•Why U.S. intelligence refused to examine important documents detailing the secret Iraqi networks that became the heart of the insurgency
•How newly discovered Iraqi government documents reveal the extent of Saddam Hussein's ties to international terrorists and the truth about his WMD arsenal

Shadow Warriors shows that George W. Bush never got the first rule of Washington: People are policy. He allowed his political enemies to run roughshod over his administration. This insider's look at secret White House meetings, political backstabbing, and war-room summits is an eye-opening account of the mind-set that is crippling our effectiveness in Iraq and around the world.

I might have to pick this one up; I’ve never read anything by Timmerman that was less than excellent.

Timmerman was on Laura Ingraham radio program early this morning talking about his book.
It was a repeat due to holiday but worth rehearing

If memory serves me correctly, Laura thought that Timmerman’s great book, “Shadow Warriors” was about American special forces. Timmerman politely pointed out that these “warriors” were leftzi wimps (my words) that had attempted a coup against a sitting POTUS.

I don’t recall hearing that.
They were on the subject of the State Dept.and their own agenda rather than America’s.

I’m waiting for a GOP Presidential candidate to address the problem of the federal bureaucracy, which undermines Republican Presidents. What are they going to do about this? I’m sure if I read Timmerman’s book, I’d be shocked, but not surprised.

That's because of the popularity of this book:

What happend to the CIA is probably the same as what has happened to the Border Patrol and much of law enforcement in this country. The patriotic adrenaline junkies stayed in the field for years while the cowardly little suck ups stayed in the office. The suck ups of course, made their way throught the ranks and eventually found themselves dictating policy to the ever more disgruntled adrenaline junkies.

Yes, the leftzis in the State Department and the CIA who had attempted to sabotage W’s foreign policy, among other things. These shadow “warriors” were an anti-Bush cabal operating within the bowels of our permanent government.

Two books about Shadow Warriors. One dealing with brave heroes, many of whom, are putting their lives on the line; and the other with anti-democratic, leftwing misfits who want to circumvent the elected government because they feel they know better than the American people.

I finished it last night, and the most infuriating thing about it is that for the last 5 years we've been told that Bush politicized government and politicized intelligence and smeared political opponents and jeopardized national security for partisan purposes, whereas the fact is that it was Bush's bureaucratic and media OPPONENTS - working hand-in-glove - who were doing all of those things, over and over.

All of those people in FR who say the dinosaur media are dead, have issued premature obits. The MSM have been pummelling Bush since before he took office. And, despite their claims that Bush is a nasty payback artist, his responses to those smears and leaks - if they occur at all - are too little, too late, so all the anti-Bush criticisms stick.

Amazing isn't it, the tumult (and rot) that can lie beneath a veneer. I agree with you that Bush adhered to Queensbury rules at the OK Corral.

Happy New Year Steve.

I finished it yesterday. It wasn't an easy soft read. It was left lots of questions in my mind, especially about the new investigation into CIA tapes that were destroyed. I can think of several reasons for destroying those tapes, but I bet the people who will be pilloried by this investigation will be the president and his White House, and not the people who need to be punished.

It's now pretty clear to me that no matter what Republican ever gains the hot seat that the presidency must surely be for them, they will need to be vicious in removing from seats of influence very early all those old democrat holdovers from previous administration, even if they have burrowed deep into their respective agencies. These people have been relentlessly trying to undo the elections of the people of the country, endangering our fight men, and working against their leaders. One of the biggest mistakes Pres. Bush has made was being too nice. I expect the State Department to corrupt any and every person named to it, and the CIA to actively fight against anyone sent there to fix things.

Belated reply - I think you are right. Any Republican president who is not a Democrat clone will be faced with the same problem - Democratis bureaucrats at State, Defense, and the CIA who will collaborate with journalists via selective leaks to undermine the president’s policies.
